The P3.0 is a 2.5-way tower design by the Sheffield company Wilson Benesch. It was the top model of the Precision Series, described by the maker as the statement model of that range, and it now belongs to the Wilson Benesch Heritage collection.

Key specs that matter

The cabinet carries four drivers. One 170 mm Tactic 2.0 midrange and two 170 mm Tactic 2.0 bass units, covering high and low bass, work with a 25 mm Leonardo silk dome tweeter. Wilson Benesch quotes 31 Hz to 24 kHz within 2 dB and a sensitivity of 89 dB at 1 m on axis with 2.83 V input. Impedance is 6 ohm nominal with a 4 ohm minimum. Height is 1225 mm, the baffle is 205 mm wide with 269 mm at the widest point, and depth is 472 mm. Each enclosure weighs 59 kg.

Engineering and use context

The Tactic 2.0 cone is made of isotactic polypropylene, a material Wilson Benesch chose for high specific stiffness combined with damping, and the maker states that it allowed a reductive, minimal crossover. The midrange has a direct link to the amplifier, free of filter parts, and it sits in an acoustically optimised enclosure, port tuned with a roll-off at 500 Hz. For the high bass unit, Wilson Benesch fits a first-order network with an air-cored inductor. A first-order network also serves the low bass unit, built with laminated high density iron-cored inductors with a high coil packing ratio, and it is ported through the underside of the enclosure. The tweeter gets a 5 kHz second-order high-pass network and sits in a sealed enclosure. It is a geometrically optimised design whose decoupled polymer and carbon fibre faceplate is produced by in-house 3D printing, and Wilson Benesch credits it with wide dispersion and good phase behaviour. The cabinet combines aluminium, birch ply, steel and high density compressed paper. CNC-machined aluminium top and bottom caps lock the baffles to the wooden side panels, an aluminium baffle, rear enclosure and plates are tied together with steel bar, 13 mm U-section steel damping rods brace the structure vertically, and tubular cross bracing does the same horizontally.

Pairing

Connection is by a single-wired terminal set mounted at the rear, and four M14 spike threads are provided per channel. Finishes include Precision Black and White, Verde, Grigio, Nero, Slate, Bronze, Burr Walnut, Aged Walnut, Aged Oak and Silver Birch.
