The Capello 100 is the tallest and heaviest Capello model made by Gauder Akustik, the speaker maker based in Renningen near Stuttgart that builds its models by hand in Germany. The series comprises the Capello 40 stand-mount monitor, the Capello 80 and Capello 100 floorstanders and a Capello Center, and the 100 is the only three-way design among them, with two bass drivers in a drop-shaped cabinet.

Key specs that matter

The Capello 100 splits its range three ways across four drivers in a bass reflex enclosure - two 7-inch woofers, a 7-inch midrange and an aluminium dome tweeter. The crossover points sit at 144 Hz and 3,400 Hz. Gauder quotes a frequency range of 27 Hz to 30,000 Hz, efficiency of 90 dB and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Power handling is 300 W sine and 500 W impulse, with 35 W given as the minimum amplifier power. Each cabinet stands 114 cm high, 25 cm wide and 42 cm deep and weighs 28 kg. Standard finishes are black and white piano lacquer, and olive or walnut veneers in a satin finish can be ordered at no extra charge.

Engineering and use context

Bass and midrange units share black XPulse cones of aluminium-polymer, a patented membrane developed so that partial vibrations fall above the upper crossover point, outside the band the midrange covers. The tweeter is hand-selected, and it can be upgraded later to a beryllium dome with half the moving mass of earlier Gauder tweeters, without any crossover change. A downward-venting port serves the bass section, and the mid-treble section works in its own closed volume. The crossover of the Capello 100 holds 56 parts from Mundorf and Intertechnik in a symmetrical layout with 60 dB per octave slopes, and Time Delay Control corrects driver timing for impulse accuracy. Gauder chose the drop shape to reduce reflections and edge diffraction and to stiffen the enclosure against resonance. Internal wiring is by Clearwater, and spike extender brackets come as standard. A bridge on the rear sets the overall bass level at -1.5 dB, linear or +1.5 dB between 22 Hz and the lower crossover point, and the Bass Extension System accepts plug-in modules that lift the 30 Hz to 70 Hz region in six steps.

Pairing

The high efficiency lets modest amplifiers drive the Capello 100, though its low impedance rules out amplifiers that struggle with demanding loads. Twin WBT NextGen terminal pairs permit bi-wiring with two cable sets, or bi-amping with a dedicated amplifier channel for each section.

Alternatives

The Gauder Akustik Capello 80 is the other Capello floorstanding model, a 2.5-way design rated at 190 W and standing 109 cm tall.
