Burmester's BX100 is a Berlin-built passive tower speaker, presented in 2024 and scheduled for production from autumn and winter of that year. It sits between the brand's B-Series and BC-Series speakers and uses a 4-way bass reflex layout with side-mounted woofers and a free-standing Air Motion Transformer tweeter.

Key specs that matter

The high range is handled by a single AMT in a free-standing housing on top of the cabinet, an open arrangement that avoids reflections from a cabinet baffle. Placing the large woofers on the side walls keeps the front of the speaker narrow. A 17 cm midrange driver and a 17 cm midbass driver sit on the front, both with cones made from polypropylene mixed with carbon fibre, while two 26 cm woofers with sandwich membranes are mounted on the sides. Crossover points are 130 Hz, 240 Hz and 2,200 Hz. Burmester quotes a response of 37 Hz to 24,000 Hz within 3 dB, sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, a nominal impedance of 3 ohm and a nominal load capacity of 350 W to DIN EN 60268-5. Standing on its feet the speaker is 290 mm wide, 1,465 mm tall and 660 mm deep and weighs 135 kg, and on spikes it grows to 340 mm wide and 1,515 mm tall at 141 kg.

Engineering and use context

With the lower range split across three drivers, the side woofers handle only the deepest bass, while the front midbass unit covers the band above them before the midrange takes over. The enclosure follows a low-vibration construction with internal reinforcement, and Burmester presents it as a new cabinet concept with configurable design options intended to fit different living spaces. The front-mounted midbass and midrange units share the same size and the same diaphragm material, while the side woofers use a different sandwich construction. At the terminal area the bass section and the mid and high section can be wired separately for bi-amping, and gold-plated copper bridges also set the level of the low and high frequency ranges. Finish options include white or black in matte or gloss and a medium grey.

Pairing

The low nominal impedance needs amplification able to supply high current into low loads, and the split terminals let two stereo amplifiers or a set of mono amplifiers drive the woofers and the upper drivers on separate channels. Burmester's own integrated and power amplifiers are the obvious partners within the brand, and the level bridges let the owner shift the balance of the low and high ranges without extra equipment.

Alternatives

The Burmester BC350 is the larger floorstander from the BC-Series, a 3-way bass reflex design with selectable Pure and Live tunings.
