Designed and built in Saarbrücken, the BM Line 35 from Backes & Müller is an active tower and the most compact model of the BM Line family, which also includes the BM Line 60, 80 and 100. Its front baffle is very narrow, and the maker aims it at large modern living spaces where much bulkier speakers were used before. The model was presented as a new 2026 product with prices from EUR 79,900.
Key specs that matter
The Line 35 uses four 12-inch bass drivers controlled by the DMC2.0 servo system in its side panels, ten 6-inch carbon fibre drivers on the front and one Fraunhofer cylindrical wave radiator with a 1-inch tweeter, which works from 1,000 Hz upward, so everything below that point is shared between the carbon fibre array and the woofers. The frequency range is 22 Hz to 24,000 Hz. Total amplifier output per speaker is given as 3,000 watts. The cabinet measures 20 cm wide, 173 cm tall and 48 cm deep, and each speaker weighs 100 kg.
Engineering and use context
Amplifiers, digital crossovers and D/A converters are fully integrated. The frequency division takes place ahead of the power amplifiers in the patented FIRTEC processor, built on an FPGA based DSP developed in-house, which is designed to keep phase and timing exact across the drivers. The bass units sit in sealed side enclosures, and the sensor control matches their motion to the input signal for a clean impulse response. On the front, the ten carbon fibre units and the cylindrical wave radiator form a line source over most of the height of the cabinet, while the side mounted woofers keep the baffle narrow. Buyers can order the speaker in paint finishes of their choice and can customise the metal surrounds of the drivers to suit the interior.
Pairing
Outboard power amplification is unnecessary. The Line 35 accepts analogue signals through balanced XLR inputs, digital signals through an AES input, and it supports the B&M Easylink connection used with the brand's own preamplifier. A preamplifier or source with volume control is therefore the only electronics required. Because each speaker contains its own amplifiers and converters, the AES input can take a digital stream straight from a transport or streamer without a separate DAC or power amplifier in between, and every cabinet needs its own mains connection. Given its weight the speaker needs a solid floor, and in rooms well above 20 m2 it was designed to replace larger boxes.
Alternatives
In the same maker's range, BM Line 60 sits one step above it within the active BM Line towers.
