The Atrium, now offered as the Atrium System Mk2, is a six-tower ribbon loudspeaker system from Clarisys Audio, with a starting price of USD 1,000,000. It separates bass, midrange, treble and infrasonic reproduction into dedicated ribbon panels, and every ribbon in the system is identical and double-sided. Component manufacturing takes place in Hanoi, Vietnam, while final calibration and quality control are done in Zwingen, Switzerland.

Key specs that matter

The stereo system uses eight ribbon drivers per pair. Clarisys quotes a frequency response from 20 Hz at minus 3 dB to above 20 kHz, a nominal impedance of 6 ohm and an efficiency of 92 dB with neodymium magnets. Each main tower stands about 210 cm tall, 93 cm wide and 46 cm deep, and weighs about 274 kg without its flight case. The complete system exceeds 748 kg.

Engineering and use context

Midrange and high frequencies come from pure aluminium dual bipole ribbons, which work in phase and begin radiating at 150 Hz, with neodymium magnets placed along their sides. The bass section uses curved ribbon panels with aluminium foil on a Kapton backing and neodymium magnets, and dedicated infrasonic ribbon subwoofers cover the lowest octaves without cone drivers. Their panels have slanted edges intended to reduce standing waves, and impedance transformer units use Lundahl transformers from Sweden. The crossover is a 3-way passive first-order network with only four components, built with Jantzen Superior Z capacitors and custom inductors. All crossover parts sit in external enclosures, which Clarisys says gives flexibility, thermal control and a path for upgrades. The structure of the whole system is CNC-machined aluminium.

Pairing

With its moderate nominal impedance and high efficiency, the Atrium is a passive load for conventional stereo power amplification, fed through the external crossover boxes rather than directly to the ribbons. Clarisys has demonstrated its large systems with Soulution amplification, although no single amplifier is required. Because the system occupies six towers, its space demands are far above those of a normal pair of floorstanders.
