The ADAMANTE is a D'Appolito floorstanding loudspeaker built in Puceul, western France, by Stentor SAS under the Apertura name. It sits just below the ENIGMA mkII in the range, with two bass/mid drivers placed above and below a ribbon tweeter. The company, which celebrated its 35th anniversary in 2018, lists nine current models, and the ADAMANTE is the eighth of them. The Dutch price was EUR 18,000 per pair including 21% VAT.

Key specs that matter

Two 18 cm (6.5 inch) Isotactic Matrix cone bass/mid units with a modified magnet assembly work with a ribbon tweeter measuring 15 x 145 mm and using an aluminium and polymer sandwich diaphragm. The crossover point is 1.8 kHz. Apertura quotes a frequency range of 32 Hz to 30,000 Hz within 3 dB, a sensitivity of 93 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm. Without stands the cabinet measures 220 x 353 x 1150 mm, and on its metal stands 360 x 391 x 1211 mm. Net weight is 52 kg, and the shipping weight is 61 kg. Single-wire binding posts accept bananas or spades.

Engineering and use context

The DRIM crossover is split over two separate circuit boards for the high and low sections and is hand-wired on a high-power printed circuit board with 210 micron copper, carrying thirty-seven high-end components per speaker. The cabinet is formed from many thin layers of high-density MDF pressure-moulded to a thickness of 28 to 44 mm, with eight heavy internal bracing panels. Its sides are curved and no two faces are symmetrical, which limits parallel surfaces inside. Bass loading mixes a reflex port with an acoustic line, and the port tube exits beneath the loudspeaker rather than on the baffle. All finishes are high gloss - figured maple, American walnut, rosewood, piano black and a cream white to RAL 9010.

Pairing

With its high sensitivity the ADAMANTE reaches ordinary listening levels with modest amplifier power, but its demanding impedance favours amplification that remains comfortable with low impedance loads, so a current-capable transistor amplifier is the more secure match. The port opening under the cabinet means the metal stands are part of the acoustic design and set the gap to the floor.
