The Achema opens the Raffaello Collection of Albedo Audio, the loudspeaker maker based in Montelabbate in the Italian province of Pesaro e Urbino, and the company presents it as its entry point into ultra-high performance listening. It was announced in autumn 2025 as a slim tower meant to fit ordinary living spaces, and it borrows design ideas from the costlier Agadia and Acclara. The Australian price was AUD 29,000 per pair, and Albedo backs it there with a five-year guarantee.

Key specs that matter

Albedo arranges three Accuton ceramic drivers as a passive 2.5-way system. A 173 mm (7 inch) woofer covers the bottom octaves, a 158 mm (6 inch) CELL ceramic unit handles the midrange, and a 25 mm CELL ceramic dome with a vented voice coil takes the top. Both larger cones use 38 mm titanium voice coils. The crossover points sit at 300 Hz and 2.6 kHz. Albedo rates frequency response at 44 Hz to 22 kHz, sensitivity at 85 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m and nominal impedance at 11 ohm. Each cabinet measures 23.2 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 105 cm tall and weighs 38 kg net. Three glossy lacquer colours are offered - black, grey pastel and pearl ruby red.

Engineering and use context

Bass loading follows the transmission line approach Albedo has used for years, here called the Helmholine System, where tuned Helmholtz resonators filter the line. The line exits through vents in the side panels, shaped to steady the outgoing airflow and limit turbulence, and the maker says this layout makes placement in a music room easier. Albedo explains the half-way concept as an enlarged low-frequency driver that adds radiating area and output while keeping the behaviour of a three-way system, and the choice of drivers raises the impedance above the usual 8 ohm figure. Wooden panels reach 30 mm at the most stressed points, the front baffle is slanted with sculpted edges, the top is angled and no two inner walls run parallel. The filters mix first and second order slopes, are assembled by hand from Mundorf parts only and live in a separate isolated compartment wired with Van den Hul cable. Circuit boards with fewer solder joints and shorter copper tracks are credited with about 1 dB of extra output.

Pairing

The high nominal impedance draws less current than that of a typical speaker, so the Achema is easy work for valve amplifiers and modest solid state designs alike, although the modest sensitivity calls for reasonable voltage swing. Jumpers are supplied for single wiring, and removing them allows bi-wiring. Metal spikes adjustable from above come pre-installed together with metal floor protectors.

Alternatives

The Albedo Agadia is the next step up, a 2.5-way Imperiale tower built around an 8 inch sandwich ceramic woofer.
