The ACE 50 Wireless is the floorstanding model of Piega's Ace Wireless series, which the Swiss company launched in January 2022, with sales in the UK starting late in February. It is the tower counterpart of the ACE 30 Wireless standmount, and its cabinets follow the same design by Stephan Hürlemann. As with the smaller model, a stereo pair consists of a TX and an RX speaker, and UK prices were GBP 2,090 for the TX unit and GBP 1,900 for the RX unit in aluminium, rising to GBP 2,140 and GBP 1,950 in black anodised or white gloss.
Key specs that matter
The tower is a three-way design using six drivers - a Piega AMT tweeter, one 120 mm MDS midrange and four 120 mm MDS bass units. Its amplifier delivers 200 W at under 1% THD, and the quoted response is 30 Hz to 25 kHz. The column stands 105 cm tall, 14 cm wide and 16 cm deep on a round foot of 25 cm diameter. Weight depends on finish, at 14 kg in silver and 16 kg in black or white. Streaming and the analogue input both run at up to 24 bit and 192 kHz.
Engineering and use context
Piega uses a closed box with no port, and the midrange unit is mounted in a separate enclosure of its own within the column. Digital signal processors are used to extend the low end of the slim tower. The cabinet is extruded aluminium with a sandblasted surface, in silver, black anodised or white lacquer, with removable grilles in matching colours. Inputs are split between the two units. The TX speaker takes digital coaxial and optical signals, HDMI eARC, analogue stereo and Ethernet, and has sockets for an external WiFi antenna and an external IR receiver. The RX speaker has an analogue mono input and a balanced stereo input and output. Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, Spotify Connect and Roon Ready are built in together with DLNA and Bluetooth, and the power supply works from 100 to 240 V. The Piega Control app runs on Android and iOS.
Pairing
A phone or tablet running one of the built-in streaming services is enough to start playback, since amplification and streaming are both inside the TX tower. For television use the speakers connect over HDMI eARC, optical or coaxial cable, or wirelessly to a TV with WiSA certification, and the ACE Center Wireless can be added as a centre channel.
Alternatives
Piega's Premium 501 Wireless Gen2 is a fully active three-way floorstander with its own amplifier for each driver branch and a handmade Linear Drive Ribbon tweeter, rated at 180 W.
