The 2-10 Perfect SET is a floorstanding loudspeaker from Tekton Design, the Orem, Utah company founded by designer Eric Alexander. It belongs to the Perfect SET family, whose models were each optimised for a different amplifier power band and target listening level, and adds two 10-inch bass drivers to the original Perfect SET concept. It is built around Tekton's patented tweeter-array midrange, made under US Patent 9247339.

Key specs that matter

The 2-10 Perfect SET is a three-way design combining two 10-inch Pendragon bass transducers with Tekton's seven-tweeter poly-cell array, whose combined moving mass is only about 2 grams. Frequency response is 30Hz to 30kHz and sensitivity is 95dB. Tekton optimised it for tube amplifiers rated from 12 to 120W RMS. Each speaker measures 110.4 x 33 x 35.5cm and weighs 34.4kg.

Engineering and use context

Instead of a conventional cone midrange, the array groups seven small soft-dome tweeters in a polygon-shaped, triple-ring layout. The six outer domes are driven together as a single midrange radiator, crossing over much lower than a lone tweeter could, while the centre dome alone handles the highest frequencies. Grouping domes this way adds up their radiating area while keeping the moving mass extremely low, and the concentric layout makes the array behave like a coaxial driver, with midrange and treble from one point. Tekton describes the array's dispersion as focused like a horn or waveguide but without horn walls constraining the wavefront. Within the Perfect SET family, Tekton matched each model to the amplifier power and playback level its owner is likely to use - the smaller Perfect SET 15 targets amplifiers from about 1 to 8W, the Perfect SET 12 roughly 8 to 20W, and the 2-10 Perfect SET more powerful amplifiers. The twin 10-inch bass drivers supply the cone area needed for higher playback levels. Tekton sells direct and offers a range of paint finishes, including custom colours.

Pairing

High efficiency lets the 2-10 Perfect SET reach high levels from moderate single-ended designs as well as larger push-pull tube amplifiers. Solid-state amplifiers of similar power also work, since the design does not depend on a particular output impedance. The large bass section suits medium to large rooms.
