The Versura V0 is a two-way closed-box compact loudspeaker from AUER ACOUSTICS and the smallest model in the Versura range, which continues with the V1, the V2 three-way tower and the V4 four-way tower. The company is based in Bavaria, Germany, and a pair was listed at EUR 13,615 in Europe when the range launched. Like every Versura model, its cabinet is made wholly of Tankwood, also known as Panzerholz, which is natural wood pressed together with phenolic resin at high pressure, and the company relies on sealed enclosures throughout the line.
Key specs that matter
A 34 mm beryllium dome tweeter works with an 18 cm bass-midrange driver. AUER quotes sensitivity of 88 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, a nominal impedance of 8 ohm with a minimum of 6 ohm, and a recommended minimum amplifier power of 20 W. The lower cut-off is 35 Hz and the upper cut-off 40 kHz, both at plus or minus 3 dB. The cabinet measures 41.7 x 22 x 35 cm, and the speaker weighs 22.3 kg on its own, or 38.3 kg together with the optional stand.
Engineering and use context
The sealed box does without the port found in many compact speakers, and AUER states that the closed cabinet is chosen for control of the bass at any listening level. Tankwood is denser than common MDF, which explains the high weight for a cabinet of this size. In the crossover AUER fits Mundorf capacitors of its SESGO line (silver, gold, oil), and the other network components are Jantzen parts. Inside the box the signal runs through high-silver wire made by Van den Hul. Terminals allow optional bi-wiring. Lacquer choices include Deep Black, Chalk, Indian Red, Pure Orange, Lugano Blue, Traffic White, Slate Grey Neo and Shade Green Metallic, in matte or gloss, and walnut and oak natural wood finishes are also offered. An optional matching stand is sold for placement at listening height, and a solid shelf can also take the speaker because it has a closed back.
Pairing
With its moderate sensitivity and benign impedance the V0 is a good match for a solid-state integrated amplifier in the tens of watts or more, and a bi-wire cable or two runs of speaker cable can be used with the split terminals. In a room of around 20 m2 the sealed design is less sensitive to rear wall distance than a ported box.
Alternatives
The AUER ACOUSTICS Versura V1 is the three-way stand-mounted sibling in the Versura family, adding a 12 cm midrange driver to the beryllium tweeter and 18 cm bass-midrange unit.
