The V4 Series 4 is the smallest of three two-way active studio monitors in the fourth generation of the KRK Systems V Series, which the company presented in 2016 with 4, 6.5 and 8 inch woofer sizes. KRK describes it as a full-range reference monitor for recording, mixing and mastering, and the launch pricing put the V4 at USD 399, below the V6 at USD 599 and the V8 at USD 799.

Key specs that matter

A 1 inch Kevlar dome tweeter sits above a 4 inch woven Kevlar woofer, both designed by KRK, and the handover between them happens at 2.1 kHz. The internal Class-D amplifier is bi-amped, sending 55 W to the woofer and 30 W to the tweeter for an 85 W total, and KRK rates peak output at 110 dB SPL. Response is 58 Hz to 19 kHz within 3 dB, widening to 50 Hz to 24 kHz at the minus 10 dB points. The cabinet measures 256 mm high, 166 mm wide and 218 mm deep and weighs 5.8 kg. Audio enters through one balanced Neutrik combo socket with friction lock that accepts XLR or 1/4 inch jack plugs, and mains power arrives through an IEC inlet.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure combines MDF with a cast aluminium front, and the bass reflex vent exits at the front, so the box does not need a gap behind it for the port to breathe. An EVA foam pad under the base and the metal front act as a built-in stabiliser that limits cabinet recoil as the woofer moves and keeps the monitor from sliding on a desk. Rear-panel DSP switches include a level trim that cuts in 0.5 dB steps down to minus 3 dB for matching the V4 to other monitors, a ground lift for hum from ground loops, an input sensitivity selector, and controls that switch the front KRK logo light off or dim it. With standby enabled, the monitor sleeps after 30 minutes without signal and wakes after a 3 second delay once the input passes minus 50 dBu. Protection circuits guard against mains surges, amplifier overdrive and overheating, a USB jack is reserved for future updates, and threaded points accept wall brackets. A grille fixed under the brushed faceplate with six cap-head screws is supplied for rooms with heavy foot traffic.

Pairing

A balanced output from an audio interface, mixing console or monitor controller suits the combo input, and the plus 4 dBu setting fits professional gear with the higher reference level. Consumer sources with unbalanced outputs can run at the minus 10 dBV position, which is how KRK ships the monitor.
