The TAD-ME1TX-G is a limited version of the Micro Evolution One, a stand-mounted speaker from the Evolution family of TAD Laboratories in Japan. TAD keeps the acoustic design of the regular TAD-ME1TX unchanged and gives this edition an exclusive Luxe Green high-gloss finish. Production is limited to 50 sets worldwide, and each set is sold complete, with two speakers and one pair of matching TAD-ST3TX-G stands in the same green.

Key specs that matter

The ME1TX-G is a vented three-way bookshelf system. A 16 cm woofer handles the bass, and a 9 cm coaxial driver combines a magnesium midrange with a beryllium tweeter. The crossover hands over at 420 Hz and again at 2.5 kHz. TAD rates the response from 36 Hz to 60 kHz, the sensitivity at 85 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m, the impedance at 4 ohm and the maximum input power at 150 W. A single speaker weighs 21 kg and measures 254 x 411 x 402 mm (W x H x D). Each stand weighs 16 kg and measures 376 x 642 x 437 mm.

Engineering and use context

This coaxial driver follows TAD's CST principle, in which tweeter and midrange share one axis so the upper range leaves the cabinet from a single point. Beryllium for the tweeter diaphragm and magnesium for the midrange are both light and stiff metals, which moves their break-up modes away from the working band. The woofer cone is a MACC diaphragm. The enclosure is a SILENT design, which TAD describes as combining structural strength with vibration damping. Bass loading uses the bidirectional ADS port layout, in which slot vents in the side panels replace a conventional front or rear port. Because the regular TAD-ME1TX shares every acoustic part, the green edition differs only in surface finish and in being supplied together with its stands. The stands raise this small cabinet to a practical listening height and are painted in the same green, so speakers and stands form one visual unit. Buyers of the regular ME1TX choose between Piano Black and Silver White instead.

Pairing

Low efficiency and low impedance point to a transistor amplifier which keeps its output steady into low impedances, while the modest input ceiling means there is no reason to drive it with a very large power amplifier. A compact integrated amplifier with solid current delivery fits the scale of this speaker well.
