The Sopran 622 belongs to the Sopran series as its two-way stand-mounted model, made by Morel of Israel, a firm that produces its own loudspeaker drivers. Morel says the design draws inspiration from its earlier Fat Lady model. Pairs are handmade to order, which takes roughly three to four months, and the US price was about USD 5,999 per pair at launch, later listed at USD 6,499 in 2026.

Morel uses a 28 mm Acuflex soft dome made by hand, using neodymium for its magnet and a copper-sleeved aluminium voice coil. Bass and midrange come from 160 mm woofers with carbon polypropylene cellular cones and 75 mm aluminium voice coils, also with copper sleeves. The crossover point is 2.2 kHz. Morel gives sensitivity as 88 dB and nominal impedance as 4 ohm. Frequency response is listed as 40 Hz to 20 kHz at +2/-3 dB. Power handling is 160 W nominal and 750 W peak. Each speaker weighs 14 kg, and overall dimensions are 270 mm wide, 1203 mm high and 370 mm deep.

Engineering and use context

Neodymium motors drive the woofers, following Morel's usual approach of building drivers in-house. The enclosure is medium density fibreboard with bass reflex loading through a CNC-machined rear port. Internal bracing is CNC-machined to limit cabinet resonances, and the curved shape of the cabinet adds rigidity and helps control diffraction at the edges. Painted and natural veneer finishes are offered, including black, walnut, wenge and white, with further woodgrain and epoxy colour combinations and custom colours on request. The Sopran series also includes the larger Sopran 934, and Morel announced a centre channel and a subwoofer for the range. The rear port means the speaker should not be placed flush with a wall, as the port needs free air behind the cabinet to work as designed.

Given the low impedance and middling efficiency, Sopran owners should favour transistor designs with generous current output. The handmade build and order lead time mean the finish should be chosen before ordering, as each pair is built for a specific customer.
