The MR12 heads the size range of the Alcons Audio M-series, where the Dutch company lists it as a large-format three-way 12-inch midfield and main monitor, above the MR10 and the two-way MR5. Alcons presents it for critical midfield reproduction with ultra-low distortion across the whole dynamic range. The range was shown to North American users in Los Angeles on 16-17 October 2025 and in Europe during the Amsterdam Dance Event on 21-24 October 2025.
Key specs that matter
The low end uses an AMB12NDAIC-4 neodymium 12-inch driver in a vented box, the midrange a 5-inch AMB5NDAIC-4 neodymium unit and the treble the 2-inch RBN202rs pro-ribbon. The quoted response runs from 26 Hz to 20 kHz at plus or minus 3 dB and extends to 22 Hz at the 10 dB point. Sensitivity is 88 dB over 200 Hz to 10 kHz. Maximum peak level is 120 dB driven by a Director6 or 119 dB with a Sentinel3. Horizontal and vertical coverage at 15 kHz measures 120 by 40 degrees. The enclosure is 870 mm tall, 380 mm wide and 535 mm deep, with a mass of 37.0 kg, and the warranty runs for 6 years.
Engineering and use context
Alcons fits the multiple-patented ribbon to reproduce everything from 1 kHz upward, so it handles more of the midrange than a conventional tweeter would. Its low moving mass and compression-less principle allow 500 W of peak input for 200 ms, and the maker specifies a 1 to 15 ratio between RMS and peak level. The HempHorn waveguide holds horizontal directivity at a constant 120 degrees. Both cone drivers have ActiveCoil motors developed in-house, and the ScoopVent loading of the low end is meant to raise breathing capacity and transient response. Because all three models share the same mid and high transducers, the MR12 can be mixed with MR10 and MR5 cabinets in a multichannel layout.
Pairing
Filtering is active, and the cabinet takes Speakon NL2 and NL4 connectors for separate bass, mid and ribbon channels, with nominal loads of 4 ohm, 4 ohm and 35 ohm. It must be tri-amplified, with a Director6 as the minimum. Alcons ALC controllers provide VHIR phase processing, AES3 inputs up to 192 kHz and remote amplification. The Director6 offers up to 6 kW in total over eight class D channels, swappable power and amplifier modules and a 3.12-inch OLED screen.
Alternatives
The Alcons Audio MR10 is the next size down in the M-series, a three-way model with a 10-inch woofer in a 740 mm cabinet.
