The MR10 is the mid-sized member of the M-series reference monitors from Alcons Audio, the Dutch pro-ribbon specialist. Alcons describes it as a three-way 10-inch near- and midfield monitor, placed between the two-way MR5 and the larger MR12. The series had its official North American introduction on 16-17 October 2025 in Los Angeles and its European introduction on 21-24 October 2025 at the Amsterdam Dance Event. Alcons lists multichannel production, mixing for music and film, broadcast rooms and live monitoring as its targets.

Key specs that matter

A 10-inch AMB10NDAIC-4 neodymium woofer in a vented enclosure works with a 5-inch AMB5NDAIC-4 neodymium midrange and an RBN202rs pro-ribbon with a 2-inch format. Frequency response is 29 Hz to 20 kHz within 3 dB, reaching 26 Hz at the 10 dB limit. Nominal sensitivity is 87 dB, measured over 200 Hz to 10 kHz. Peak output reaches 118 dB with a Director6 controller and 116 dB with a Sentinel3. Dispersion at 15 kHz is 120 x 40 degrees. The cabinet stands 740 mm high, 330 mm wide and 465 mm deep, and weighs about 27 kg. Alcons gives a 6-year limited warranty.

Engineering and use context

The ribbon covers the mid and high band from 1 kHz upward, which gives it a wider share of the midrange than traditional designs, according to Alcons. It is rated for 500 W peak input over 200 ms, which the company states as ten times the industry norm, and its RMS-to-peak dynamic range is given as 1 to 15. It sits on a HempHorn waveguide with patented constant 120-degree horizontal directivity. Midrange and bass units use custom ActiveCoil motor structures intended for low distortion, and bass loading follows the ScoopVent design, here with direct drive. Every M-series model uses identical mid and high frequency transducers, so mixed MR5, MR10 and MR12 arrays share one voicing in multichannel rooms. Impedance is 4 ohm for the woofer plus 4 ohm for the combined mid and ribbon section, or 4 ohm, 4 ohm and 36 ohm when each driver is fed separately.

Pairing

The MR10 is a remotely amplified passive cabinet. Alcons names the Director6 as the minimum controller and allows bi-amp or tri-amp operation through its ALC series, which add VHIR phase processing and 192 kHz AES3 digital inputs. The Director6 has eight bridgeable class D channels, 750 W each or four channels of 1500 W, with 96 kHz internal processing, 8-band EQ and delay tools.
