The MH-3 is a small two-way wall speaker designed, engineered and finished by Lyngdorf Audio in Denmark, intended for small stereo or media room installations used together with subwoofers. Being very shallow, it is designed first of all for wall mounting, and it was listed at USD 599 per speaker. Besides a stereo pair it can serve as a height or Atmos channel.

Key specs that matter

A 1 inch textile soft dome tweeter with PTC protection works above a 4 inch aluminium cone midrange driver, and the crossover point is 2.7 kHz. The midrange unit has a 25 mm voice coil and a vented magnet that Lyngdorf rates as 50 percent stronger than a traditional 4 inch driver. Frequency response is 110 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 84 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m, nominal impedance is 4 ohm and power handling is 80 W. The cabinet measures 14 x 19.2 x 8 cm and weighs 2.3 kg. Typical uses also include small and medium rooms, surround duty and discreet cinema systems, and warranty cover is two years.

Engineering and use context

Each cabinet is a sealed box made entirely of MDF with an internal volume of only 0.8 litre. Because its bass extension is limited, the MH-3 is meant to hand the bass to one or more subwoofers through a crossover in the amplifier or processor. Keyhole slots on the back hang the speaker directly on the wall, and the cabinet is prepared for alternative brackets when a different mounting angle is needed. Placement is flexible, and the maker allows the speaker to sit up to 30 cm above or below listening height. Connections are made through binding posts. The MH-3 is also meant to be integrated with Lyngdorf TDAI amplifiers. Two finishes are offered - black matte paint with a black grille and white matte paint with a grey grille - and optional Gabriel fabric covers come in black, grey, petrol blue, dusty green and red.

Pairing

A subwoofer is part of the intended system rather than an option, so the MH-3 fits best with electronics offering bass management and a subwoofer output. Its modest power rating and low nominal load suit Lyngdorf's compact TDAI integrated amplifiers, which provide crossover controls for this kind of satellite and subwoofer setup. Lyngdorf names its BW-2 and BW-3 subwoofers as compatible partners.

Alternatives

The Lyngdorf MH-2 is another compact satellite model from the same series of the brand.
