The M16 is the only bookshelf model in Revel's Concerta2 series, a HARMAN range that also includes the F36 and F35 towers, the C25 centre channel, the S16 on-wall speaker and the B10 subwoofer. Revel says it built Concerta2 to meet lower price points without giving up design or construction quality, relying on new waveguides, optimised transducers, fresh crossover topologies and new port designs. The company describes the M16 as a true full-range two-way 6.5 inch bookshelf with a small footprint.

Key specs that matter

The 165 mm (6.5 in) aluminium cone woofer uses a low-distortion motor, and the series literature describes its cone as Micro-Ceramic Composite (MCC). Above it sits a 25 mm (1 in) aluminium dome tweeter derived from the Performa3 series, loaded by a fourth-generation Acoustic Lens waveguide. The crossover point is 2.1 kHz. Low-frequency extension is 55 Hz at -3 dB, 50 Hz at -6 dB and 45 Hz at -10 dB. A rear-firing port loads the box, and five-way binding posts handle connection. With feet, height is 370 mm, width 220 mm and depth 270 mm, the weight is 7.3 kg, and the high-gloss finishes are black and white.

Engineering and use context

Typical tweeter magnet assemblies leave only a small space behind the dome, which raises the fundamental mechanical resonance. For Concerta2, Revel designed a large cavity behind the magnetic assembly, vented around its perimeter, and paired it with a compliant surround. This places the resonance at 800 Hz instead of the 1.5 kHz Revel cites as typical at this price, which allowed the crossover to be set an octave lower for better system directivity. The waveguide matches tweeter and woofer directivity through the crossover region. Cones, voice coils, surrounds, magnets and spiders were optimised by computer modelling, with laser analysis of prototypes confirming symmetry. The patented Constant Pressure Gradient (CPG) port has a contoured inner wall that keeps the pressure change from inlet to outlet substantially constant, reducing compression and balancing output against distortion. Curved, rigid side walls and extensive bracing stiffen the enclosure, no fasteners are visible on the front, top or sides, and the magnetic grilles carry brushed metallic logos. Driver positions and network integration were computer optimised.

Pairing

Revel recommends 50 to 120 W of amplifier power. Nominal impedance is 6 ohm and sensitivity 86 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. For multichannel use, the C25 centre uses the same crossover point, and the B10 subwoofer adds a 10 inch driver with an 800 W Class D amplifier.

Alternatives

The Revel M106 from the Performa3 line is the nearest bookshelf model outside Concerta2, with the same woofer size and an 8 ohm rating.
