The Neumann KH 350 is an active three-way reference monitor with DSP control, intended for nearfield and midfield work in stereo and multichannel studio rooms. Unlike the closed KH 310 II it uses a ported bass enclosure, and its cabinet stands vertically with a larger waveguide for controlled dispersion. Neumann recommends a listening distance of 1.2 to 3.0 m.
Key specs that matter
Neumann fits a 210 mm woofer, a 75 mm midrange with magnetic shielding and a 25 mm tweeter behind a black metal grille. Built-in amplifier channels deliver 185 W to the woofer, 125 W to the midrange and 125 W to the tweeter at 0.1% THD+N, rising to 300 W and 160 W for the first two at 10% THD+N. Free-field response runs from 27 Hz to 21 kHz within 6 dB, and the pass band is 32 Hz to 20 kHz within 1.25 dB. Maximum output reaches 122.6 dB SPL at 1 m in half-space and 116.6 dB in full space at 3% THD between 100 Hz and 6 kHz. The cabinet measures 545 x 280 x 363 mm and weighs 20.0 kg.
Engineering and use context
Crossover frequencies are 700 Hz and 1,700 Hz with 24 dB per octave slopes. Internal processing uses 32-bit audio and 64-bit double-precision arithmetic, and a linear-phase FIR filter flattens the response between 60 Hz and 18 kHz. Bass, low-mid and treble equalisation controls let the user adapt the monitor to its position. The enclosure combines a composite polycarbonate front with a wooden sleeve. The KH 350 supports MA 1 automatic monitor alignment, and network control is handled through the same MA 1 software, which suits installations with several monitors that must be set up and checked as a group. Its vertical orientation places the drivers in a line, which helps keep the dispersion pattern symmetrical left to right in a stereo or surround array.
Pairing
The monitor accepts an electronically balanced analogue signal on XLR and a digital AES3id stream on a 75 ohm BNC socket, with a BNC output for passing the digital signal on to the next unit. A studio audio interface, monitor controller or preamplifier with balanced outputs is enough to drive it, since amplification is already inside the cabinet. For multichannel rooms the digital loop-through simplifies wiring of several KH 350 units from one AES3id source.
Alternatives
The Neumann KH 310 II is the compact sealed-box sibling in the same three-way DSP family, laid out horizontally.
