The Kawero! Furioso mini is a passive speaker made by the German company Kaiser Acoustics, sold under the brand's Kawero! name. Despite the model name it stands 116 cm tall, and it pairs a single mid-woofer with two passive radiators in a time-aligned cabinet built around a dense wood laminate front baffle.

Kaiser's published bandwidth spans 37 Hz to 30 kHz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohm and a sensitivity of 89 dB at 2.83 V. The driver set consists of an elliptic silk dome tweeter described as having ultralow distortion, a 7.5 inch mid-woofer with a papyrus cone and two custom-made 7.5 inch Illuminator passive radiators with aluminium diaphragms. Each cabinet is 30 cm wide and 48 cm deep and weighs 40 kg.

Engineering and use context

Kaiser makes the front baffle from tankwood, a wood-based laminate that Kaiser describes as so dense that it sinks in water and offers rigidity comparable to steel. It is veneered and finished with a clear lacquer, while the body behind it is birch plywood with MDF decks, lacquered in standard colours. The pair of passive radiators replaces a bass reflex vent - the single mid-woofer loads an enclosed air volume whose tuning is set by the moving mass of the radiators, so the cabinet has no port opening and no port noise. Because the radiators have no motor of their own, they add bass output without adding another electrical load for the crossover and amplifier. The crossover is a proprietary topology with Jantzen AWG 12 wax coils, Duelund cast carbon resistors and real metal foil capacitors. Kaiser describes the design as time aligned, so the tweeter and mid-woofer outputs are arranged to arrive together at the listening position. Tankwood, also sold under the German name Panzerholz, is used across the Kawero! range and is chosen by Kaiser for its vibration damping as well as its stiffness, which keeps the baffle carrying the drivers from adding its own resonances. The tall, narrow cabinet puts the drivers close to the ears of someone sitting down without extra stands, and the modest footprint makes the pair practical in a room of around 20 m2.

Pairing

Since its nominal load is low, the Furioso mini needs a partner whose output stage handles low impedances with ample current, and solid-state designs rated for 4 ohm are the straightforward choice. The moderate sensitivity lets a mid-sized amplifier reach everyday levels, so large valve amplifiers with a low-impedance tap are also workable.
