The Footprint02 Gen2 is a compact powered monitor from Barefoot Sound with three amplified ways, introduced alongside a second-generation Footprint01 as the smaller model of the pair. It takes analogue line signals and contains its own DSP, conversion and amplification, so it runs without an external power amplifier. Barefoot's list price is USD 3,495 per pair.

Key specs that matter

Barefoot fits a pair of 6.5-inch woofers with aluminium cones, a 5-inch aluminium midrange unit and a 1-inch dual-ring radiator tweeter. Class D amplification is split into 200 W for the woofers, 150 W for the midrange and 60 W for the tweeter, 410 W in all per monitor. Barefoot quotes 38 Hz to 40 kHz within 3 dB and 42 Hz to 30 kHz within 1 dB, with crossover points at 180 Hz and 3,700 Hz. Maximum output is at least 111 dB SPL, and harmonic distortion stays below 0.005 percent at full level. Each speaker is 344 mm high, 232 mm wide and 316 mm deep, and weighs 15.8 kg.

Engineering and use context

The sealed MDF enclosure has 9.4 litres of internal volume, is damped with polyurethane and carries a machined aluminium baffle. Barefoot says the sealed design of the second generation increases internal volume and damping compared with the original model. The paired woofers follow the Dual-Force principle, in which opposing drivers cancel each other's mechanical forces. DSP latency is 3 ms. SPOC, Spectrally Optimized Conversion, places analogue filtering before the digital converter to raise signal to noise and resolution. MEME, Multi Emphasis Monitor Emulation, offers switchable models of familiar reference sources such as consumer playback systems, modified NS10s and mix cubes, so a mix can be checked on several voicings from one monitor. Signals are processed digitally after that analogue stage, and power draw is 35 W at idle and up to 500 W at maximum. The first-generation Footprint02 used paper composite woofers, a 4-inch midrange and 350 W of total amplification.

Pairing

The rear panel offers one XLR socket and one TRS jack, both at 20 kohm impedance. Balanced feeds from studio interfaces, monitor controllers or line preamplifiers therefore connect directly, and the monitor is finished in Barefoot's textured gray coating.
