The Diana II is a passive two-way speaker for shelf or stand use from Italy's Gold Note and part of the modular Diana range announced in January 2025. The range also includes the smaller Diana I, the Diana Center for home cinema and the Diana III-F extension module. Placing the Diana II on the Diana III-F, which is held by built-in magnets and recognised automatically, turns the bookshelf model into a floorstanding speaker.
Key specs that matter
Two 6.5-inch treated paper mid-woofers are arranged symmetrically above and below a silk dome tweeter in a D'Appolito layout. The crossover point is 2,900 Hz. Response is quoted as 45 Hz to 20 kHz within 3 dB. Sensitivity is 91 dB at a nominal 8 ohm, and the maker suggests amplifiers of 10 to 120 W. Internal volume is 23 litres, and each cabinet measures 260 mm wide, 460 mm tall and 375 mm deep. Net weight is 22 kg for the pair.
Engineering and use context
A mechanical phase plug, which Gold Note calls a dome phaser, sits in front of the tweeter to guide its output at high frequencies, and it can be ordered in gold, silver or black. Four semi-elliptical mechanical resonators are placed along the axis of the mid-woofers to damp unwanted vibration and stiffen the enclosure. The reflex port fires from the rear panel, and the company states that it was tuned to keep bass extension even when the speaker stands close to a back wall. The outer cabinet is wrapped in fabric made from recycled fibres first used for racing car seats, available as Black Rebel or Grey Artic, and this cover resists wear and stains while letting sound pass. Internal damping foam backs the fabric. A dedicated Diana Stand provides isolation from the floor and controls vibration, and the same box can later become the upper section of a tower without buying a new pair.
Pairing
Its efficiency and benign impedance allow the Diana II to run from a small valve amplifier at one end of the recommended power window or a solid-state integrated at the other. The rear port and the tuning for placement near a wall make it practical in a room of about 20 m2 where the speakers cannot be pulled far into the space. A Diana Center of matching sensitivity keeps levels matched in a home cinema layout.
Alternatives
The Gold Note Diana I is the more compact stand-mount design in the Diana family, rated at 88 dB sensitivity.
