The Diana I is a Gold Note two-way stand-mount, made in Italy by the Tuscan company and priced at GBP 1,290 in the UK. It is the smaller model of the Diana range, and it can be combined with the Diana III-F extender to form a floorstanding speaker. A phaser dome in front of the tweeter is one of its visible design features.

Key specs that matter

The Diana I uses a 1.1-inch silk dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch glass-fibre mid and bass driver, with the crossover at 2,900 Hz. Frequency response is 48 Hz to 20 kHz at ±3 dB, sensitivity is 88 dB and impedance is 8 ohms, and Gold Note suggests amplifiers of 10 to 100 W. The cabinet is a rear-ported bass reflex design. Each speaker measures 260 mm wide, 290 mm high and 375 mm deep, and a pair weighs 14 kg. The cover fabric is Italian-made from recycled fibres, in Black Rebel or Grey Arctic, and the phaser is available in gold, silver or black.

Engineering and use context

The phaser is a small dome mounted in front of the tweeter, and it shapes how the tweeter output leaves the diaphragm. A glass-fibre cone for the 6.5-inch driver combines light weight with stiffness, and it handles the range up to the crossover. With its moderate sensitivity and stable load, the speaker works with many different amplifiers, including low-power designs toward the 10 W end of the suggested range. The rear port supports the bass extension, and the cabinet is deeper than it is tall, which gives internal volume in a short cabinet. The Diana III-F extender turns the stand-mount into a floorstander, so a buyer can later add bass capacity without replacing the speaker. The fabric covering, made from recycled fibres, forms part of the finish rather than a separate grille. The Diana Center shares the same tweeter and crossover point and adds a second mid and bass driver, so a home cinema can use the two models together.

Pairing

The easy load suits Gold Note's own amplifiers as well as tube and solid-state integrated amplifiers within the suggested power range. The rear-facing port works best with some clearance to the wall. On stands, the Diana I fits rooms of about 20 m2, and the Diana III-F extender or a subwoofer can add bass later.

Alternatives

The Gold Note Diana II is the bigger Diana stand-mount, with two 6.5-inch paper mid and bass drivers, 45 Hz extension, 91 dB sensitivity and 11 kg per speaker.
