The Concentro S 503.2 is the compact stand-mount model of the second Concentro generation from ELAC Electroacustic GmbH, the company founded in Kiel, Germany, in 1926. ELAC introduced the Concentro S 2.0 models at the High End show in 2024, and this speaker carries design features and technical details of the larger S 507 and S 509 into a much smaller cabinet. Pricing started at EUR 3,499 per speaker. The cabinets are handcrafted in Kiel and finished in high gloss black lacquer, high gloss white lacquer or walnut veneer with a high gloss lacquer coat.
Key specs that matter
This is a 3-way bass reflex design. A 180 mm woofer with an AS-XR cone works up to 400 Hz, a concentric midrange ring of 50 by 130 mm with an AS-XR AL cone runs to 2,600 Hz, and a JET 6 folded ribbon tweeter at its centre covers the top. ELAC lists a range of 34 Hz to 50,000 Hz and sensitivity of 87 dB at 2.83 V and 1 m. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm, with a minimum of 4.8 ohm at 120 Hz. Power handling is 120 W nominal, 200 W music and 400 W impulse, and the recommended amplifier output spans 60 to 500 W per channel. Each speaker is 400 mm high, 225 mm wide and 372 mm deep and weighs 13.4 kg.
Engineering and use context
Mounting the tweeter in the middle of the midrange unit lets both radiate from one axis. Three exchangeable Directivity Control Rings are supplied, and fitting a different ring changes how widely the midrange disperses. The AS-XR cones have a crystal-like faceted surface that ELAC shapes to balance stiffness against damping, and the woofer received a revised magnet system for this generation. The cabinet is built from a multi-layer composite with a trapezoid footprint and a convex baffle that recedes toward every edge, while the whole enclosure is tilted back. ELAC describes the styling as a mix of Concentro elements and the plainer forms of its Vela series. The LS 100 stand, developed specifically for this model, is sold separately, and adjustable spikes with decoupling pads are included in the box.
Pairing
Bi-wiring terminals come with a bridge set for single-cable use. ELAC rates the speaker for amplifiers designed for 4 to 8 ohm loads, and the minimum impedance that stays close to nominal plus the moderate efficiency make a solid-state integrated amplifier or pre and power combination in the upper part of the suggested range a sensible partner.
Alternatives
Among other ELAC bookshelf speakers, the Vela 2.0 BS403.2 comes from the line whose cleaner design language the S 503.2 partly adopts.
