The Compact T10 is a Bryston three-way stand-mount from the T10 range of the Canadian electronics and loudspeaker maker. The T10 name marks the tenth anniversary of the original Model T line, which Bryston CEO James Tanner initiated and which was developed with Andrew Welker and Ian Colquhoun of Axiom Audio. The Compact T10 sits between the Tiny T10 and Mini T10 among the bookshelf models of the range.
Key specs that matter
A 1-inch titanium dome tweeter, a 5.25-inch midrange and an HP 6.5-inch woofer share the range, with crossover points at 250 Hz and 2 kHz. Frequency response is 45 Hz to 20 kHz within ±3 dB and impedance is 8 ohms. Bryston gives sensitivity as 91 dB in room and 87 dB anechoic at 1 W and 1 m. Recommended amplifier power is 10 to 250 W, with 300 W maximum RMS and 1,200 W maximum dynamic. The cabinet measures 483 x 236 x 267 mm and weighs 12 kg. A Target MR stand is offered as an option.
Engineering and use context
All T10 models share the same tweeter type and the same crossover points, so the Compact T10 can be combined with larger T10 models in a multichannel system. The cabinet is vented with what Bryston calls a Reflex Vortex port, a fluted port profile, and the front baffle is up to 38 mm thick with internal bracing behind it. Every T10 speaker is supplied with four exchangeable modules - single-amp, bi-amp, tri-amp and active - so a passive speaker can later be converted to bi-amping, tri-amping or active operation by swapping the module. Run actively, each speaker is fed by three amplifier channels through Bryston's BAX-1 digital crossover, and the passive network is bypassed. Three veneers are standard - Walnut, Boston Cherry and Black Ash - and Bryston will supply other colours to order. Bryston builds its speakers in Dwight, Ontario, and covers them with a 20-year warranty.
Pairing
The easy load suits Bryston's own power amplifiers as well as integrated amplifiers from about 10 W upward. With the tri-amp module, three amplifier channels can drive the woofer, midrange and tweeter separately. The Target MR stand places the drivers at seated ear height in a room of about 20 m2, and the shallow cabinet also fits a sturdy shelf.
Alternatives
The Bryston Mini T10 is the larger T10 stand-mount, with an 8-inch woofer, a 4 ohm impedance and bass extension to 35 Hz, weighing 19 kg.
