The c1 is an active two-way studio monitor from Manger Audio, a German maker whose bending-wave Manger Sound Transducer is produced in Mellrichstadt with many manual steps. The driver technology was developed by founder Josef W. Manger, and after he died in 2016 Daniela Manger took over leadership of the firm. It belongs to the Manger systems range next to the active S1 and the passive P1, P2, Z1 and W1 models. The UK price was GBP 9,500 per pair and the eurozone price EUR 11,000 per pair, and the pair is supplied with dedicated stands.
Key specs that matter
Manger quotes a frequency range of 30 Hz to 40 kHz and a crossover point at 330 Hz. Each channel carries two Class AB amplifiers, rated at up to 250 W into 8 ohm for the woofer and 180 W into 8 ohm for the Manger transducer, with a power bandwidth of 250 kHz at -3 dB on the high-frequency side. Maximum sound pressure level is given as 110 dB peak. Input sensitivity can be set to 6 dBu (1.55 V) or 0 dBu, and input impedance is 10 kOhm. Each cabinet measures 495 x 270 x 424 mm and weighs 30 kg.
Engineering and use context
The Manger transducer is a flat diaphragm working on the bending-wave principle, with a rise time of 13 microseconds and a bandwidth from 80 Hz upward quoted for the unit itself. Below the crossover, a 200 mm woofer with a glass fibre and polyester sandwich cone and a 38 mm voice coil handles bass and lower midrange in a closed box. The signal path is fully analogue, with no digital processing, and each driver is fed by its own amplifier. Rear-panel filter switches act at 100 Hz, 3.25 kHz and 10 kHz, and an 11-position input trim runs from -2.5 dB to +2.5 dB. There is also a polarity switch, an 80 Hz high-pass filter for 5.1 monitoring work, and an XLR socket that feeds an optional bass module.
Pairing
The only signal connection is one balanced XLR-3 socket, so the c1 takes its feed straight from any source or control unit fitted with balanced line outputs, for example a control preamp or a studio audio interface, with no separate power amp in the chain. The supplied stands are made of steel and aluminium with a silver anodised finish, use decoupling materials and give a standard height of 612 mm. Given the weight of each unit, Manger recommends two people for installation.
Alternatives
The Manger s1 is the other active loudspeaker in the Manger systems line.
