The Vibe Buds are an entry pair of true wireless in-ear headphones in the JBL Vibe family, made by HARMAN International of Northridge, California, and documented in a spec sheet dated 2022. They use a sealed bud shape that sits in the ear canal, as opposed to the stick-shaped Vibe Flex, and are aimed at daily commuting, sport and phone calls rather than wired home listening.
Key specs that matter
Each bud carries an 8 mm dynamic driver. JBL lists a response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 16 ohm impedance, 100 dB SPL sensitivity at 1 kHz and a maximum level of 95 dB SPL. One charge gives up to 8 hours of music with Bluetooth on and 4.5 hours of talk time, and the case holds another 24 hours, for 32 hours in total. A 10-minute quick charge adds about 2 hours, while a full recharge from empty takes under 2 hours. Each earpiece weighs 4.5 g (9 g for the pair) and measures 21.5 x 20.4 x 15.8 mm, and the case weighs 34 g at 68.9 x 37 x 26.7 mm.
Engineering and use context
Inside each bud sits a 47 mAh lithium-ion polymer cell at 3.8 V, and the case uses a 550 mAh cell charged over USB Type-C from a 5 V, 1 A supply. The radio follows Bluetooth 5.2 with A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.6 and HFP 1.7 profiles, transmits below 10 dBm in the 2.4 to 2.4835 GHz band and uses GFSK, pi/4 DQPSK and 8DPSK modulation. The bud body closes off the ear canal, which blocks part of the outside noise passively and helps the small driver hold low frequencies, as the spec sheet lists no active noise cancelling. The microphones are rated at -38 dBV/Pa for hands-free stereo calls, and the VoiceAware function lets the user choose the level of their own voice returned into the buds while talking. Smart Ambient gives two listening modes - TalkThru, which lowers music so a quick chat is possible with the buds still in, and Ambient Aware, which keeps playback going while letting surrounding noise through. The earbuds carry an IP54 rating against dust and splashes, while the case is rated IPX2. JBL gives 45 degrees C as the maximum operating temperature. The box includes three sizes of ear tips and a USB Type-C cable.
Pairing
As a sealed Bluetooth design with its own amplification, the Vibe Buds need no external amplifier or DAC and connect to any phone, tablet or laptop that supports the listed profiles. The companion JBL Headphones app is where the equaliser and the listening modes are adjusted.
Alternatives
Within the same Vibe series, JBL also offers the Vibe Beam true wireless earbuds.
