The JBL TUNE BEAM 2 is a noise cancelling true wireless earphone from JBL, finished in the brand's translucent ghost design, with adaptive noise cancelling, and sold with a charging case and three sizes of ear tips. JBL gives it a total playback figure of up to 48 hours with the case, and it supports JBL Spatial Sound processing and Personi-Fi 3.0 personalisation through the JBL Headphones app.

Key specs that matter

A 10 mm dynamic driver is fitted in each earbud. The frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, impedance is 16 ohm, sensitivity is 100 dB SPL at 1 kHz and maximum SPL is 95 dB. Battery life depends on noise cancelling - up to 12 hours on one charge without ANC and up to 10 hours using it, plus three further full charges in the case, which totals 36 or 30 hours. Talk time is up to 6 hours with ANC off and 5 hours with it on. Each earbud weighs 5.2 g (10.4 g for the pair) and measures 33.4 x 22.6 x 25 mm, while the case weighs 42 g at 61.5 x 29.15 x 47 mm.

Engineering and use context

The earbuds carry six microphones in total. On each side two beamforming outer mics pick up the voice and one inner mic isolates noise, with environmental noise cancellation and echo suppression applied to calls, and microphone sensitivity is -38 dBV/Pa at 1 kHz. Ambient Aware sets how much outside noise passes through, and TalkThru allows conversation without removing the earbuds. The earbuds are rated IP54 against dust and water, a rating that covers the earbuds only. Bluetooth 5.3 carries A2DP 1.4, AVRCP 1.6.2 and HFP 1.8, with transmitter power up to 13 dBm EIRP in the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz band. The earbud cells are 65 mAh 3.85 V lithium-ion units, the case uses a 590 mAh 3.8 V battery, charged from empty in 2 hours over USB Type-C at 5 V 1 A. Maximum operating temperature is 45 degrees C. The app also handles ANC level, gesture customisation, fit checking and a find-my-earbuds function.

Pairing

The TUNE BEAM 2 works with Bluetooth phones, tablets and laptops. Multi-point connection holds two devices at once, and Fast Pair by Google lets Android devices connect with a single tap. Bluetooth transmission uses GFSK, pi/4-DQPSK and 8DPSK modulation. Packed alongside the buds are their case, a USB-C lead, three ear tip sizes and the printed documentation.
