The Tune 130NC TWS is an entry-level true wireless earbud with active noise cancelling from JBL, part of Harman, announced in September 2021 alongside the stem-shaped Tune 230NC and the Reflect Flow PRO. It reached sale on 17 October 2021 at USD 99.95, in black, white and blue, and in India it was listed at Rs. 4,999. The model uses the rounded Dot form factor rather than a stem.

Key specs that matter

A single 10 mm driver sits in each bud. JBL lists a range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 103 dB sensitivity at 1 kHz and 1 mW and an impedance of 32 ohm. Without noise cancelling the buds play for 10 hours and the case adds 30, giving 40 hours; with noise cancelling on, the figures fall to 8 plus 24 hours. JBL's product page credits a 10-minute Speed Charge with 2 hours of play, although the launch announcement gave 1 hour for the same top-up, and a full charge takes 2 hours. The earbud cells are lithium polymer at 70 mAh and 3.85 V, and the case holds a 750 mAh, 3.7 V cell. JBL gives 11.4 g for the earbuds and 40.4 g for the case. The Bluetooth 5.2 radio supports A2DP 1.3, AVRCP 1.6 and HFP 1.7, with transmitter power between 0 and 12 dBm.

Engineering and use context

Noise cancelling uses two microphones per bud, and Smart Ambient lets outside sound in when the wearer needs to hear announcements or traffic. For calls the model has four mics in total, and VoiceAware controls how much of the user's own voice is heard during a conversation. The Dot shape is designed for a secure hold, and the buds ship with tips in three sizes. An IPX4 rating covers splashes and sweat. Touch controls on each bud handle playback, calls and mode changes, and the JBL Headphones App allows the controls and sound profile to be personalised. Google Assistant and Alexa are built in, Fast Pair by Google shortens pairing with Android phones, and Dual Connect + Sync lets the listener wear a single bud if preferred. The box is completed by a USB Type-C lead, printed start-up instructions and the warranty card.

Pairing

The source can be any handset, tablet or notebook with Bluetooth, and no external amplifier or DAC is involved. Android owners benefit most from Fast Pair and the built-in assistant, while iPhone users can still use the app and Alexa.
