HiFiMAN designed the Svanar Wireless as a true wireless in-ear model that places a small version of the brand's R2R ladder DAC and headphone amplifier inside each bud. It was announced in June 2023 at USD 499 and is currently listed by the maker at USD 149, with noise cancelling and a water resistant build aimed at daily use away from a desk.
Key specs that matter
Both buds carry a 10 mm dynamic driver with a frequency range of 10 Hz to 35 kHz. The on-board amplifier is rated at 45 mW, and playback resolution reaches 24 bit and 192 kHz. The earbuds connect over Bluetooth 5.2 and accept LDAC, AAC and SBC. Battery life per charge is 4 to 7 hours depending on use, and the case can recharge the earbuds three times before it needs power itself. Each bud weighs 8 g, and the housings carry an IPX5 rating against sweat and dirt.
Engineering and use context
That driver is built around the HiFiMAN Topology Diaphragm, whose surface is treated with a nano particle coating. The signal is converted by the Hymalaya module, a custom multi-bit ladder DAC combined with the amplifier stage, instead of the usual delta-sigma chip found in most wireless earbuds. Active noise cancelling offers up to 35 dB of reduction, while a separate ENC function uses the microphones to suppress constant background noise on calls. An ambient pass-through setting keeps the wearer aware of surroundings, and a HiFi mode switches the processing off for music. The case supports wireless charging, and several eartip sizes are supplied for fit. There is no dedicated app with an equaliser, so all functions are handled on the earbuds themselves.
Pairing
As a Bluetooth device, the Svanar Wireless works directly with a phone, tablet or computer, and no external converter or amplifier is part of the chain. To use the LDAC codec, the source must support it, which covers most Android phones, while iPhones connect over AAC. For calls, the built-in microphones handle voice pickup, with the ENC processing working on the outgoing signal. Because the DAC and amplifier sit in the earbuds, the quality of conversion does not depend on the phone, only the Bluetooth link and codec. Listeners on an iPhone will not use the LDAC path, so the full playback resolution is reached only with compatible Android sources and players.
