The Peacock is an open-back headphone from Sendy Audio, the upmarket label of Sivga in China. It was Sendy's first no-compromise design, built around a large planar magnetic driver with a four-coil diaphragm and housed in wood and leather. Its gold-plated perforated grille evokes the feathers that give the headphone its name.

Key specs that matter

Each earcup holds an 88 mm planar magnetic driver with Sendy's Quad-Former technology. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 40 kHz, sensitivity is 103 dB (+/-3 dB) and impedance is 50 ohms (+/-15%). The headphone weighs 578 g. The 2 m cable terminates in a 4.4 mm balanced plug, and adapters to 4-pin XLR and 6.3 mm are supplied.

Engineering and use context

In the Quad-Former layout, double-sided magnet arrays flank the film and coils are printed on both faces of it, with two coils on each side, four in total. Sendy states that this arrangement improves magnetic energy conversion and consistency while lowering distortion. The diaphragm is made of a proprietary material with high damping, which supports the extended high-frequency range. The driver housing was refined in the placement of its mounting screws and holes to keep baffle resonance from colouring the response. The gold-plated perforated grille covers a second protective black layer over the driver. The wooden housings are CNC-carved, then polished, painted and left to dry naturally, and all gold-coloured parts are 24K gold plated. The cable is an 8-core braided 6N OCC design that attaches to each earcup through its own 4-pin mini XLR connector. The headband uses a metal suspension design with articulated yokes, spreading the weight across the head, and the earcups stay cool for long sessions. Clamping force is light. The balanced 4.4 mm connection is the default, reflecting Sendy's aim to use the Peacock with balanced amplifiers. The package includes a stiff, moulded tan leather travel case and a branded muslin pouch holding the cable and adapters. In some markets, the same product is sold under the Sivga name. Its price was USD 1,499 at launch.

Pairing

The Peacock reaches normal levels from portable players, but a desktop amplifier or a player with a strong balanced output brings it to its best. Balanced amplifiers such as those with 4.4 mm or XLR outputs are the natural match.

Alternatives

Sendy Audio's Aiva 2 uses a 97 x 76 mm oval planar driver at a lower price.
