The M-10 comes from V-MODA, a brand owned by Roland, as a sealed circumaural model designed mainly for DJ monitoring. It was introduced alongside the M-100 Pro and takes its ear cup shape from the M-100 series, while aiming at a wide group of users from home beginners to semi-professional performers. The US list price is USD 179.99.

Key specs that matter

Behind each pad is a 50 mm dual-diaphragm dynamic driver with Japanese-made hi-res CCAW voice coils. Frequency response runs from 5 Hz to 40 kHz. Sensitivity is 102 dB plus or minus 3 dB at 1 kHz and 1 mW, and impedance is 32 ohm plus or minus 3 ohm. The headphone weighs 275 g. Outer dimensions are 210 mm wide, 140 mm deep and 85 mm high. Roland specifies an operating range of -10 to 50 degrees Celsius and relative humidity from 10 to 95 percent.

Engineering and use context

Roland describes the tuning as aimed at monitoring beat-driven music, which sets the priority of the whole design toward cueing work rather than studio mixing. The dual-diaphragm construction is Roland's approach to reproducing beat-driven material with firm low-frequency drive in a club or booth. Memory foam pads cover the ear and help with passive isolation, which matters when a DJ has to cue one track while another plays from the main system. Cables are detachable, so a worn lead is swapped in seconds and the headphone keeps working. The box contains two of them - a 1.5 m braided straight cable with 3.5 mm plugs at both ends, and a 3.0 m coiled cable that terminates in a 6.3 mm plug at the source end. A 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm stereo adapter and a carrying pouch are also supplied. The copper-clad aluminium wire in the coils keeps moving mass down while keeping conductivity close to copper.

Pairing

Its modest impedance and strong sensitivity mean it is easily driven, so DJ mixers, controllers, audio interfaces, laptops and phones all reach working levels without a separate amplifier. The coiled cable is the practical choice at a DJ booth, where it gives reach without leaving loose wire on the floor, while the short straight lead suits a phone or a desk. For long sets, the low weight and soft memory foam reduce clamping fatigue, and the pouch protects the headphone and both cables in transport between gigs.

Alternatives

The V-MODA M-100 Pro is the higher model in the range, launched together with the M-10 as an over-ear headphone for DJs.
