The DK3001 BD is an in-ear monitor from DUNU in a tribrid layout that combines three driver technologies in each earpiece. A limited edition co-branded with the cable maker Effect Audio was also released. The housing is machined from aerospace-grade aluminium alloy, and the earphone was listed at USD 499.99.

Key specs that matter

Nine drivers sit in each shell. A dynamic driver with a flexible-surround bio-diaphragm covers the low and sub-bass range, two custom balanced armatures handle the midrange, two more custom balanced armatures take the high frequencies, and four custom micro planar tweeters cover the ultra-high range. The quoted frequency response runs from 5 Hz to 40 kHz. Impedance is 26 ohm, and sensitivity is 108 dB per mW at 1 kHz, with the voltage figure given as 122 dB per Vrms at 1 kHz on the maker's sheet. Total harmonic distortion is below 0.5 percent at 1 kHz. Each earpiece weighs about 8.1 g.

Engineering and use context

Splitting the band across four groups of drivers lets each type work in the range it was chosen for, with the dynamic unit reserved for bass and the planar tweeters for the top octaves. The shells are finished with a zirconium ceramic coating for durability and a smooth surface. The detachable cable is a four-core design of secondary refined high-purity Furukawa OCC copper, 1.2 m long with a tolerance of 0.1 m. It attaches to the earpieces through DUNU's patented Catch-Hold MMCX connectors. At the source end the Q-Lock MINI modular system accepts two interchangeable plugs, a 4.4 mm balanced and a 3.5 mm single-ended, so the plug can be swapped without replacing the whole cable.

Pairing

The moderate impedance and high sensitivity mean phones, dongle DACs and portable players can drive the DK3001 BD without a separate amplifier. The balanced plug fits the matching sockets on players, dongles and desktop amplifiers, while the single-ended plug covers most everyday sources. Because the MMCX connectors are detachable, the earpieces can also be used with other MMCX cables.
