The Fezz Omega Lupi is a stereo vacuum tube headphone amplifier made by Fezz Audio in Juchnowiec Koscielny in north-eastern Poland. The current Evolution version is the one Fezz lists in its headphone amplifier range next to the single-ended Ovo, and the maker's home-market price is PLN 6,400. Seven chassis colours are offered, among them Black Ice, Moonlight, EverGreen, Republika, Sunlight, Burning Red and Big Calm.
Key specs that matter
Its output stage works push-pull in class AB1, and the maker rates it for headphones anywhere from 32 to 600 ohm. Frequency response reaches from 20 Hz to 120 kHz at the -3 dB points, with THD held under 0.3 percent. There is a single pair of RCA inputs and one RCA output on the rear, plus a 6.3 mm unbalanced headphone jack on the front. Power draw from the mains is 90 W, and the main fuse is rated 3.15 A slow-blow on 230 V units.
Engineering and use context
Four PCL86 valves do all the work - each is a triode-pentode combination, so the same type covers the preamplifier, driver and output roles. Bias is set automatically by an onboard module, which means replacement valves should come as factory-selected pairs or quads rather than as loose singles. Output transformers sit in housings on the top plate behind the valves, and a front-panel knob selects one of three impedance ranges - LOW for 32 ohm models, MID for loads up to 150 ohm and HIGH for 150 ohm and above, with Fezz placing planar magnetic headphones on the HIGH setting. Apart from that selector, the only front control is the volume potentiometer. The rear panel adds a ground lift switch for the signal, the IEC inlet and the power switch. The Evolution revision brought damping feet rated for this chassis mass plus an illuminated Fezz logo, while a remote control, a protective valve cage and a higher-grade valve kit are optional extras.
Pairing
The rear RCA output passes the incoming signal on in parallel, so a second amplifier can take the same feed. For records, the Omega Lupi depends on a separate phono preamplifier for MM or MC cartridges, or on a turntable with one inside. Fezz suggests its FAC 01 interconnect for the input connection, and the amplifier must never be switched on without headphones plugged in.
Alternatives
The Fezz Ovo is the brand's other valve headphone amplifier, a single-ended class A triode design built around two EL84 and one 12AX7 with RCA and XLR inputs.
