The sPS-1000 is a DC linear power supply from SOtM, the Korean maker of network-audio servers, USB cards and clock modules. It was built to feed external DC power to source components such as music servers, streamers and USB interfaces, and it shares the aluminium case and 360 mm width of the sMS-1000SQ server. American buyers paid USD 1,000 when it first appeared, and the standard version costs EUR 1,299 in Italy.
Key specs that matter
Three separate DC outputs sit on the rear panel, each with its own rotary knob offering four voltage steps. The high-level output gives 18, 19, 20 or 21 V at up to 4 A and is intended for digital media players and low-power PCs. The mid-level output covers 9, 10, 11 or 12 V at up to 2 A for the majority of small audio devices, while the low-level output supplies 5, 5.5, 6 or 7 V at up to 1 A for USB units and similar small boxes. Mains input is 220 to 230 V or 110 to 115 V at 50 or 60 Hz, drawing 2 A or 4 A depending on the setting. The case measures 360 x 68 x 245 mm and the unit weighs 8 kg or more.
Engineering and use context
SOtM designed the sPS-1000 around linear circuits only, with no digital circuitry anywhere inside, so that the supply itself does not generate high-frequency switching noise. Each rail uses an ultra low noise regulator stage, and a built-in filter rejects noise arriving from the AC mains before it reaches the regulators. Components were selected by SOtM after extensive testing. Protection covers output short circuits, overcurrent and over-temperature. The front panel carries a DC output on/off switch and a status lamp, while the IEC inlet, AC switch, grounding posts and the three outputs are at the back. The manual asks the owner to switch the AC power off before turning a voltage knob or plugging cables, and to leave at least 5 cm of free space around the front, rear and sides. Warranty is one year against manufacturing defects.
Pairing
The high-level rail matches the +19 V input of the sMS-1000SQ Eunhasu server, which draws a maximum of 60 W, and one of the lower rails can then feed the separate power jack of that server's USB 3.0 output card, so one box powers both parts of the source. Other targets are streamers, network bridges, DACs and USB reclockers from any brand, provided the voltage and current needs fall inside one of the three ranges and the correct DC plug is used.
Alternatives
The SOtM sPS-500 is a smaller single-output supply with selectable 7, 9, 12 or 19 V and up to 5 A on the lower settings.
