The Cable+ Pro AUX-2RCA from Burson Audio is not a passive lead but an active interconnect, with a small buffer amplifier built into the cable run. It is designed to take the signal from a 3.5 mm AUX output, such as the headphone socket of a phone or laptop, and deliver it to a pair of RCA inputs through an impedance-matching stage. It sits above the standard Burson Cable+ in the range, and the step up to the Pro version brings cable and connectors from the Japanese company Canare in a professional-grade assembly.

Key specs that matter

Total length is 1.2 m, split into 1 m from the source to the buffer and 0.2 m from the buffer to the amplifier, and the assembly weighs 200 g in total. The buffer applies 6 dB of gain. Input impedance is 250 kohm and output impedance is 3 ohm, frequency response is quoted as 0 to 55 kHz within 1 dB, signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 118 dB, and THD is rated under 0.005 percent.

Engineering and use context

The buffer stage relies on Burson's own V5 operational amplifier, a discrete design assembled from selected transistors, with TDK resistors held to a tolerance of 0.5 percent. The electronics sit in a machined aluminium enclosure along the cable. Power comes from a 5 V USB supply, either a USB port on a nearby device or an external adapter, so the buffer needs a live power source to pass any signal. A 250 kohm input barely loads the source socket, while the low output impedance lets the cable drive the input stage of the amplifier or receiver it feeds. Because of the buffer, the cable is directional and cannot be connected in reverse, so the mini-jack end must go to the source and the RCA pair to the receiving component. The fixed gain also raises the level reaching the amplifier compared with a plain passive lead from the same output.

Pairing

The cable suits a desktop or bedroom setup where a laptop, tablet, phone or portable player drives an integrated amplifier, powered speakers or receiver with RCA line inputs. A free USB socket or a small USB adapter should be available near the buffer position, since the unit sits close to the RCA plugs. Where the source output is already strong, the extra gain means the amplifier volume will normally sit lower than with a passive cable.

Alternatives

The Burson Cable+ Pro 2RCA-2RCA is the same active buffered cable with RCA plugs at both ends for sources that have line-level RCA outputs.
