The Arcam AVR11 is a seven-channel AV receiver in the HDA range, built around Class AB power amplification that Arcam says is based upon the output stages of its stereo amplifiers. It decodes Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D in a 7.1.4 layout, handles 12 channels natively and carries HDMI 2.1 video switching with HDCP 2.3.

Key specs that matter

Continuous output per channel is 80 W into 8 ohm and 100 W into 4 ohm with two channels driven across 20 Hz to 20 kHz at under 0.02% THD. At 1 kHz and 0.2% THD the two-channel figures rise to 85 W and 120 W, and with all seven channels driven they are 60 W and 85 W. Signal to noise ratio is 100 dB in normal mode and 110 dB in Stereo Direct, A-weighted against 100 W, and residual noise and hum stays below 0.15 mV. Line inputs accept up to 4.5 V rms at 47 kohm with selectable 1, 2 or 4 V sensitivity, and the response of that path is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.2 dB. The chassis measures 433 x 425 x 171 mm including terminals and feet, and the net weight is 16.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

Conversion runs through dual ESS 9026PRO DACs fed by ESS reference voltage regulators, and Arcam describes the power supply and transformer as over-engineered for low noise. Seven HDMI inputs and two outputs are fitted, with eARC, and every input passes 8K at 60 fps and 4K at 120 fps along with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG. Network audio arrives over Wi-Fi or Ethernet through Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and UPnP via the MusicLife app, with Bluetooth aptX HD. MQA files are supported and the unit is Roon Ready, while RS232 and IR cover control. Maximum consumption is 1.5 kW, idle draw is typically 90 W and standby is under 0.5 W, with heat output at full load put at about 5200 BTU per hour. Mains operation is 110 to 120 V or 220 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz, and the packed weight is 19.8 kg. The box includes a DAB/FM aerial, three Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas, a USB cable and a calibration microphone.

Pairing

The preamplifier outputs deliver 1 V rms nominal and up to 5 V rms from a 560 ohm output impedance at -100 dB THD+N, so the four height channels of a 7.1.4 layout can be handed to active speakers or an outboard power amplifier. A headphone socket supplies up to 5 V rms into 32 ohm from under 100 ohm.

Alternatives

The Arcam AVR21 keeps the same HDA chassis but raises the power rating and adds a third HDMI output for Zone 2.
