The AV 30 is an 11.4-channel AV preamplifier and processor from Marantz with built-in HEOS streaming, listed at USD 4,000 below the 13.4-channel AV 20 and the 15.4-channel AV 10 in the company's processor range. It has no power amplifiers inside, so every channel leaves the chassis at line level. The front panel is metal and carries the Marantz porthole display.

Key specs that matter

Eleven processing channels plus four independent subwoofer outputs are provided, with pre-outs on both RCA and XLR. Decoding covers Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X Pro, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio, plus Auro-3D, IMAX Enhanced, MPEG-H and 360 Reality Audio. The rear panel has seven HDMI inputs, all capable of 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz with HDCP 2.3, and three HDMI outputs, two serving the main room and one assigned to a zone, with eARC on one of them. Analogue inputs number six, one on XLR, together with a moving magnet phono stage, two coaxial plus two optical digital inputs, a front USB port and an AM/FM tuner. The unit measures 442 x 396 x 191 mm without antennas and 254 mm high with them standing upright, weighs 11.1 kg and draws 80 W in use and 0.2 W in standby.

Engineering and use context

The analogue output stages use discrete HDAM-SA2 modules in a current feedback topology. The chassis is copper plated, a toroidal transformer supplies power, a clock jitter reducer is fitted and a Pure Direct mode is available. Video passes through at up to 40 Gbps and can be scaled from 1080p or 4K to 8K, with HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision and Dynamic HDR support, plus ALLM, variable refresh rate and Quick Frame Transport for gaming. On the network side the AV 30 offers Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth with retransmission to headphones, AirPlay 2, Roon Ready status and HEOS multiroom, and it plays FLAC, ALAC and WAV up to 192 kHz and 24 bit as well as DSD up to 5.6 MHz. Three zones are supported, with two analogue zone outputs.

Pairing

Because the processor has no amplification, it needs stereo, multichannel or mono power amplifiers for each speaker, fed over balanced or single-ended cables. Three DC trigger outputs, IP and RS232 control, an IR flasher input and the Marantz remote bus allow integration with amplifiers and control systems. Marantz covers the unit for five years under its US and Canadian warranty.
