T+A presents the PSD 3100 HV as a universal control centre that needs only power amplifiers or active loudspeakers added. It combines a discrete Class A preamplifier built with HV technology, a D/A converter, a network streaming client and radio tuners in one full width HV series chassis. It also accepts the IPA (LVDS) link from the PDT 3100 HV SACD transport.

Key specs that matter

On the digital side there are AES/EBU, a coaxial S/P-DIF and a BNC S/P-DIF socket, two optical, a USB DAC input taking up to 768 kSps PCM and DSD 512, two USB master mode ports for mass storage, and two HDMI inputs plus an HDMI output with ARC. Analogue RCA inputs accept 250 mV to 9 V at 20 kOhm, with balanced inputs at 500 mV to 18 V and 40 kOhm. The RCA output gives 1 V nominal and 9.5 V maximum at 20 ohm, the XLR output 1.45 V nominal and 19.6 V maximum at 40 ohm, and a 4.4 mm Pentaconn headphone socket is fitted. The preamplifier runs from 0.5 Hz to 300 kHz at 108/112 dB S/N, and the converter reaches over 117 dB with channel separation above 110 dB. Distortion is under 0.001 %. It measures 17 x 46 x 46 cm and weighs 26 kg.

Engineering and use context

T+A uses Path Separation Technology, with dedicated converters for PCM and DSD. PCM goes through a double differential quadruple converter using eight 32 bit Burr-Brown chips per channel, while DSD is handled natively by a T+A True 1-Bit converter up to DSD 512 (24.5 MHz). Listeners can pick from four oversampling algorithms, two FIR types and two Bezier types, one of them combined with IIR. Volume is relay controlled, with balance, loudness and switchable tone controls. Power draw is 30 W for the digital side and 40 W for the analogue side, with standby under 0.5 W, and finishes are silver lacquer 47 or titanium lacquer 64.

Pairing

A third generation streaming client with a quad core processor works over LAN or WLAN, playing PCM up to 384 kHz/32 bit and DSD 256 from the network and reaching Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer and more than 11,000 internet radio stations via airable. FM, FM-HD and DAB+ tuners are built in, and Bluetooth supports aptX HD, AAC and SBC. The unit is Roon Ready, works with Audirvana, and is operated by the MusicNavigator G3 app (iOS, Android) or the included F 3100 remote. Its headphone amplifier provides very stable voltage and constant current for dynamic headphones. The A 3100 HV and M 40 HV power amplifiers come from the same series.
