The Sagita Prestige is a valve line preamplifier from Fezz Audio, the Polish amplifier brand belonging to transformer manufacturer Toroidy.pl. Fezz presents it as its first product with fully balanced XLR connections, and it is part of the Evolution range, sharing its 420 mm wide case format with the op-amp based Sagita. The list price on the home market is PLN 12,900, and the unit is built in Poland.

Key specs that matter

Two hand-selected 12AU7 double triodes, also known as ECC82, form the gain stage. Connections at the back include four RCA inputs, one direct RCA input and two XLR inputs, while outputs comprise two RCA pairs and two XLR pairs. Fezz specifies harmonic distortion below 0.05 percent, a signal to noise ratio beyond 92 dB and stereo crosstalk better than 94 dB. Gain is a modest of about 5.2 dB and a maximum output of 12.5 V at 1 kHz before distortion reaches 1 percent, delivered from a source impedance of about 100 ohm. The case measures 420 x 380 x 95 mm, net weight is 11 kg and power consumption is 25 W.

Engineering and use context

Fezz built the signal path as a balanced circuit to keep noise low. The stabilised power supply relies on a Supreme Audio grade toroid wound by the parent company, and the mains voltage can be switched between 110-120 V and 230-240 V at the back, next to a ground loop switch. On the front are the volume potentiometer, an output selector, an infrared window for the optional remote handset, a combined power and source button and a separate mains toggle at the bottom edge. The direct input passes a source straight through, bypassing the volume potentiometer. Both valves sit beneath a sliding plexiglass window on the top plate, so they can be exchanged without removing the cover, and the chassis can be ordered in seven colours matching other Fezz Evolution components.

Pairing

The two sets of outputs allow a stereo power amplifier to be driven over RCA or XLR, or a pair of monoblocks to be fed one channel each. The high output ceiling leaves ample margin for transistor or tube power stages fed over balanced or single-ended links, among them the Fezz Titania power amplifier. With so little gain, the Sagita Prestige works mainly as a switching and attenuation stage, so the input sensitivity of the chosen power amplifier decides how much of the volume travel is used.

Alternatives

The Fezz Sagita is the non-valve line preamplifier of the same range, using Burson V6 Vivid op-amps with seven RCA inputs plus one direct input and a 100 dB signal to noise ratio.
