The Fezz Sagita is a line preamplifier from the Polish valve amplifier specialist Fezz Audio, belonging to its Evolution series. Its gain stages are built around Burson V6 Vivid operational amplifiers, and Fezz states that it is intended to feed both valve and transistor power amplifiers. The maker describes this version as the new generation of its Sagita line preamplifier.
Key specs that matter
Connections comprise eight RCA inputs in total, seven standard ones plus one direct input, and two pairs of RCA outputs. There are no balanced XLR connections on this model. Fezz quotes signal to noise at 100 dB and THD under 0.005 percent. Power consumption is only 12 W, with a mains fuse of 0.2 A slow-blow. The chassis measures 420 x 380 x 95 mm (width x depth x height) and weighs 9.5 kg net. Units are supplied for 230 V mains only.
Engineering and use context
The power supply section is built around an audio grade toroidal transformer made by Toroidy.pl, the Polish transformer manufacturer that owns the Fezz brand. Thanks to the two output pairs, one Sagita can serve two stereo power amps when bi-amping, or as many as four monophonic power amplifiers, and a front panel output selector chooses which pair carries the signal. The direct input bypasses the volume potentiometer, so a player with variable output sets the level itself. The front panel holds the volume potentiometer, the output selector, an IR window and a combined on and off button and source selector, while the rear adds a ground loop switch next to the IEC socket, mains switch and main fuse. The chassis rests on anti-vibration feet sized by Fezz for the mass of this unit, and a backlit logo decorates the fascia. When the preamplifier is powered on with the mains switch at the rear, an indicator lights up and turns red once the initial warm-up is complete. A remote control is available as an option at extra cost (EUR 50). Buyers can choose among seven colour finishes named Republika, Big Calm, Sunlight, EverGreen, Moonlight, Black Ice and Burning Red.
Pairing
Setup starts by connecting a power amplifier to one of the two RCA output pairs. All inputs are line level, so a turntable reaches the Sagita through a separate phono stage. Within the Fezz range, the Titania Power Amplifier is a KT88 stereo power amplifier built for use with an external preamplifier.
Alternatives
Fezz Audio also offers the Sagita Prestige, a vacuum tube line preamplifier with balanced XLR inputs and outputs.
