The TAD-M1000TX is a stereo power amplifier belonging to the Evolution line of the Japanese company TAD. It was launched in November 2024 at USD 24,950, in silver (M1000TX-S) or black (M1000TX-K). It updates the earlier M1000 with a redesigned circuit layout and new power transformers, and runs its Class D amplification in a bridged layout. The previous M1000 from 2018 was priced at USD 19,950.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 250 W per channel into 8 ohm and 500 W per channel at 1 kHz into 4 ohm, with total harmonic distortion below 0.05 percent at that load. Frequency response is 10 Hz to 50 kHz, +0/-3 dB, while noise sits at least 112 dB below signal. Gain via the balanced input is 29.5 dB. The balanced input has a sensitivity of 1.5 V and an impedance of 100 kohm, while the unbalanced input needs 0.75 V at 50 kohm. Power draw is 250 W in operation and 0.5 W on standby. The case measures 440 x 148 x 479 mm and weighs 29 kg.
Engineering and use context
Compared with the M1000, the TX version adopts direct internal wiring from other TAD electronics, a revised earthing point for electrical and structural symmetry and an upgraded first amplification stage. Its output stage is a simplified Class D single-output-stage made from leadless Direct FET devices with ultra-low on-resistance. Each channel uses a BTL (bridge-tied load) design, in which two separate amplifiers are connected in a balanced configuration from input through output stages. Two high-capacity toroidal transformers, rated at 1 kVA each and whose core cross-section was changed from square to circular to reduce leakage magnetic flux and vibration, feed the circuits, backed by 33,000 microfarad electrolytic capacitors developed in-house. The chassis stands on a three-point support structure with internally inverted spikes made of chromium molybdenum steel. Mains versions exist for 120 V, 60 Hz and for 220 to 230 V, 50/60 Hz. Two pairs of speaker terminals are fitted, allowing bi-wiring of loudspeakers with split crossovers.
Pairing
The balanced input suits preamplifiers with XLR outputs, while the unbalanced input accepts RCA sources. The high output into low loads leaves reserve for low-impedance loudspeakers, and the double terminals serve speakers with separate bass and treble connections.
Alternatives
The TAD-M700S from the Reference series is a two-channel model rated at 175 W per channel into 8 ohm and 350 W into 4 ohm.
