The Genesis A6 is a stereo power amplifier from French maker YBA, a company led by designer Yves-Bernard Andre, who has more than four decades of experience in amplifier design. The A6 is the power stage of the Genesis range, where YBA presents it together with the Genesis PRE5A preamplifier. It is built into a black aluminium case with a black acrylic front, flanked by heatsinks on both sides that carry the YBA logo etched into their surface.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 150 W per channel into 8 ohm, rising to 250 W per channel into 4 ohm. Signal to noise is above 95 dB, while THD+N remains under 0.1 percent across 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The frequency response is specified from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a deviation of only 0.5 dB. Inputs consist of a stereo pair of RCA jacks plus a stereo pair of balanced XLR-type sockets, and a single pair of speaker outputs serves the loudspeakers. The amplifier measures 430 x 402 x 175 mm and weighs 21 kg. The original list price in Germany was EUR 5,999, and the amplifier comes with a two year warranty from the date of purchase.
Engineering and use context
The amplifier takes its current from a linear supply based on a UI-Core transformer rated at 500 VA, which YBA describes as a high performance part. The front of the amplifier shows no buttons or switches at all. The on and off control sits beneath the chassis, towards the left hand side, so the face plate stays clean. Behind the acrylic panel sits a deep orange display. The two side heatsinks form the flanks of the case and carry the etched brand logo. The rear panel is kept simple, with the two input pairs and the speaker terminals as its only connections, so the choice between an RCA or a balanced link is made at the preamplifier end. The orange display matches the styling used across the Genesis series.
Pairing
The Genesis PRE5A preamplifier shares the black aluminium and acrylic styling and the 430 mm width, so the two form a matching pre and power pair, and its balanced output connects directly to the balanced input of the A6. Sources such as the Genesis PH1 phono stage feed the PRE5A, which then drives this amplifier.
Alternatives
The YBA Passion A650, a two-channel power amplifier, delivers 200 W per channel into 8 ohm and can also be bridged to mono for 600 W.
