The Single Shot GaN FET is a stereo power amplifier from JAVA Hi-Fi, the New Zealand company headed by Martin Bell, its founder and CEO. The firm started out with a light dependent resistor preamplifier funded through Kickstarter, and in 2019 it announced an integrated amplifier that it describes as the first to use GaN FET transistors. The standalone power amplifier became available in March 2023 as part of a six-model Single Shot and Double Shot range, when the UK price was GBP 6,790, and it now lists from USD 7,495 depending on finish. In 2025 JAVA added a Carbon version with 9 mm carbon fibre casework, IsoAcoustics Gaia IV feet and ETI Research Kryo binding posts, weighing 14.7 kg and priced at USD 10,995.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 200 W per channel into 8 ohm, and the maker does not publish a 4 ohm figure for this model. Line-level signals enter through a single-ended RCA pair or a balanced XLR pair. The RCA sockets are ETI Research Silver parts and the speaker binding posts also come from ETI Research. The chassis measures 44 cm wide, 41.5 cm deep and 13 cm high, with a weight of 14.1 kg. Casework is offered in White Satin, Black High Gloss, Ebony Satin, Ebony High Gloss, Dark Walnut Satin and Dark Walnut High Gloss, while the 8 mm anodised aluminium front panel can be copper, silver or black.
Engineering and use context
This is a Class D design, built on modules that switch with gallium nitride field-effect transistors instead of silicon devices, and JAVA claims these modules keep intermodulation and total harmonic distortion vanishingly low. GaN transistors switch faster than silicon parts, and a switching stage turns little of its input energy into heat, which is how a stereo amplifier of this output fits in such a low case. The circuit boards are mounted upside down in what JAVA calls an inverted PCB assembly, meant to control vibration and resonance around the audio circuit. The case is shared with the brand's preamplifiers, so the units stack as a matched set, and an online configurator lets buyers combine case and panel colours before ordering. The Single Shot 200 integrated amplifier also uses a GaN FET Class D stage of the same rating, joined there by an LDR volume control.
Pairing
Because it has both input types, it accepts the RCA-only Single Shot LDR preamplifier as well as the XLR-only Double Shot LDR, and any other line-level preamplifier. Loudspeakers of ordinary efficiency in a 20 m2 room are well within its reach.
Alternatives
The JAVA Double Shot GaN FET Stereo Power Amplifier doubles the rated output per channel and weighs 15.4 kg, from USD 9,495.
