The AP-507 is a compact stereo power amplifier in the Reference 500 series from TEAC, a range of components built on an A4 letter size footprint. It uses a custom-tuned module from the new generation Hypex NCOREx range, made in the Netherlands, and went on sale worldwide in spring 2025, with black and silver finishes available. TEAC credits the buffer stage with ultra-linear behaviour, low distortion and high efficiency.

Key specs that matter

Rated output at 1% THD is 70 W per channel into 8 ohm and 125 W per channel into 4 ohm, with 230 W into 8 ohm in bridged mono. Maximum output figures are 95 W per channel into 8 ohm, 170 W per channel into 4 ohm and 350 W into 8 ohm in BTL mode. Input impedance is 10 kohm on both balanced and unbalanced inputs, and input sensitivity ranges from 1.3 V to 0.66 V. Frequency response extends from 10 Hz to 50 kHz, the signal to noise figure is 113 dB, and THD plus noise is 0.0015%. The case measures 290 x 84.5 x 271 mm and weighs 4.4 kg.

Engineering and use context

Ahead of the Class D module sits a dual-mono buffer amplifier designed in-house by TEAC, and the circuit is fully balanced through every stage. The supply pairs a large toroidal transformer with 18,800 uF of capacitance for each channel. The chassis mixes aluminium and steel, with a 2.8 mm semi-floating aluminium top plate, and rests on a 3-point Stress-Less Isolation Foot system. There is no cooling fan, so the unit runs silently. The front panel carries dual pointer VU meters with a 4-step dimmer. Three operating modes are available - stereo, bi-amp and BTL mono. At the rear are XLR and RCA inputs, large screw-type speaker binding posts and trigger in and through connections, which let a source or preamplifier switch the amplifier on and off. TEAC describes the model as an ultra-compact design meant to enable bi-amping or bridged use.

Pairing

The balanced XLR inputs and trigger link suit a preamplifier or network player with balanced outputs and a trigger output from the same 500 series. Two units in BTL mode form a pair of mono blocks, and in bi-amp mode one unit drives the separate bass and treble terminals of a single speaker.

Alternatives

The TEAC AP-505 is the earlier stereo power amplifier in the same series, also built on a Hypex Ncore module and rated at 130 W per channel into 4 ohm or 250 W bridged into 8 ohm, with aluminium alloy panels over a steel chassis and patent-pending Pin-point feet at three positions underneath.
