The MC1.25KW is a McIntosh Laboratory solid-state monoblock and a complete redesign of the earlier MC1.2KW, which it replaced. McIntosh positions it for high-end stereo and cinema installations, and two units form a stereo pair.

Continuous output is 1,200 W into 2, 4 or 8 ohms over a 20 Hz to 20 kHz power band, with 2.2 dB of dynamic headroom and peaks in excess of 2 kW. Total harmonic distortion is 0.005%. The signal-to-noise ratio is 124 dB below rated output through the balanced input and 120 dB through the unbalanced one. Response holds within 0.25 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and within 3 dB from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, while damping exceeds 40 across the full band. The unit measures 45.09 cm wide, 31.27 cm tall with feet and 55.88 cm deep including front panel and cables, and it weighs 71.7 kg, or 83.4 kg when packed.

Engineering and use context

McIntosh builds the amplifier around its Quad Balanced circuit. An Autoformer at the output makes the full rating available to 2, 4 and 8 ohm loads, Power Guard monitors the output and corrects it instantly to stop clipping, while Sentry Monitor handles short circuits without any fuse. Compared with the MC1.2KW, filter capacity rose by 50%, internal wiring is heavier gauge and circuit components were upgraded. Four Monogrammed Heatsinks sit on the rear. The polished stainless steel chassis carries a 12.7 mm thick black glass front panel, aluminium trim and end caps with handles, four redesigned feet with chamfered edges and glass-topped enclosures over the audio and power transformers. A circular glass nameplate with a trim ring and direct LED backlighting complete the front, where a 27.9 cm blue watt meter tracks output. The amplifier switches itself off after a period without signal.

Pairing

The amplifier offers one XLR and one RCA input for linking it to a preamplifier or processor, and a remote power control connection lets it turn on in step with other McIntosh units. Balanced and unbalanced output jacks can relay the input signal to a second system or to a powered subwoofer. Several sets of Solid Cinch gold-plated binding posts allow bi-wiring and tri-wiring.
