The H Three M1400 Opus II is the larger of two mono amplifiers made by the Swiss firm Orpheus Lab, presented at High End Vienna 2026 as an addition to the Heritage Opus II line. In the UK it is priced at GBP 153,000 per pair, with shipments expected from autumn 2026.

Key specs that matter

Each monoblock delivers 700 W into 8 ohm, 1400 W into 4 ohm and 2300 W into 2 ohm, so output rises almost in proportion as the load impedance falls. The output stage runs in high-bias Class A/AB, and peak current delivery is quoted at 192 A. The power supply is rated at 2400 VA. At idle the amplifier draws 520 W from the mains. Each unit measures 570 mm wide, 748 mm deep and 345 mm tall and weighs 135 kg, so a pair adds up to 270 kg.

Engineering and use context

The output section uses 48 manually matched MOSFET devices, controlled by a bipolar driver stage, a pairing Orpheus Lab also uses in its smaller amplifiers. The bias current is set at 2000 mA, which keeps a large part of normal listening levels inside the Class A region and explains the high idle consumption. Heat from that bias is handled by a large aluminium chassis rather than by fans. The monoblock format means each channel has its own transformer, capacitor bank and mains connection, and the amplifier is placed close to its loudspeaker so that speaker cable runs stay short while the long runs are carried at line level. Given its depth and weight, every monoblock requires floor placement or an amplifier platform built for that load rather than a standard equipment rack, and moving it takes at least two people. Mains wiring should be planned for two units that together draw over 1 kW at idle before any signal is applied.

Pairing

The M1400 is intended for difficult, low impedance loudspeakers where current capacity matters more than voltage, and its power reserve into 2 ohm gives headroom for large multi-driver floorstanding designs. In a Heritage system it is fed from the H Two 33BD Opus II preamplifier, whose output driver is built for low impedance loads, with the Heritage SACD player H Zero PS Opus II as the source. The preamplifier offers a slew rate of 2000 V per microsecond and a balanced output that can be set per port, and its BYPASS mode on output B allows the monoblocks to be shared with a surround processor. The player adds a USB input for PCM up to 384 kHz and DSD256 files.

Alternatives

The Orpheus Lab H Three M800 Opus II is a smaller Heritage monoblock rated at 800 W into 4 ohm with 24 matched MOSFETs.
