The WiiM Amp is a streaming stereo amplifier for passive speakers, housed in an aluminium chassis offered in Space Gray or Silver. It combines a network player, a DAC and a power stage in one unit, and WiiM lists it at USD 299 with a voice remote in the box along with RCA, optical and HDMI cables.
Key specs that matter
Amplification is built on the TI TPA3255 chip and delivers 60 W per channel into 8 ohm and 120 W per channel into 4 ohm. Conversion uses an ESS 9018 K2M DAC, and the analog inputs accept signals up to 192 kHz and 24 bit. The stated SNR is 98 dB and THD+N of -92 dB, or 0.0025 percent, at 5 W. Both finishes use the same case, measuring 217 x 190 x 64 mm and weighing 1.84 kg. A Quad Core A53 processor runs the streaming side with 512 MB of DRAM and onboard flash storage. The same chassis and power stage are shared with the Amp Pro, which differs in its DAC, wireless module and measured figures.
Engineering and use context
The WiiM Home app is the main control point for setup of sources and groups. Wired inputs are HDMI ARC, optical, analog line and a USB port for storage drives. The HDMI ARC link carries PCM stereo only, without Dolby or DTS, so volume follows the television remote. Outputs include banana speaker terminals, a subwoofer output and USB audio out. Wireless links are dual-band Wi-Fi 5 on 2.4 and 5 GHz and Bluetooth 5.0 for phones and tablets, and a USB storage drive can be played directly from the rear port. Streaming support covers AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, DLNA and Roon Ready, plus more than 20 services inside the WiiM Home app, and several WiiM devices can be grouped for multiroom playback, with each unit selectable from the app. Voice control works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri, and the included WiiM Voice Remote gives direct access to volume and presets. Tone shaping includes a 10-band graphic EQ, a parametric EQ and 26 presets, and bass management can split the low range to a subwoofer.
Pairing
The subwoofer output and bass management are designed to work with the optional WiiM Sub Pro, and the HDMI ARC input lets a TV play through a pair of passive speakers without an AV receiver. The rating into the lower load means lower-impedance bookshelf or floorstanding speakers are within its rated range.
Alternatives
The WiiM Amp Pro uses an ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC and Wi-Fi 6E with a quoted 120 dB signal-to-noise ratio.
