The PMA-3000NE is a stereo integrated model by Denon that pairs an analogue power section, a vinyl input stage that switches between MM and MC, together with a built-in DAC with USB input. Denon designs and builds it at its own facility in Shirakawa, Japan, and offers the chassis in a silver or a black finish. Each unit is tuned by Shinichi Yamauchi, who holds the title of Denon Sound Master.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 80 W per channel into 8 ohm across 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 0.07% THD, rising to 160 W per channel into 4 ohm at 1 kHz and 0.7% THD. Total harmonic distortion is listed as 0.01% at rated output minus 3 dB. Phono sensitivity is 2.5 mV at 47 kohm for MM and 200 microvolts at 100 ohm for MC, while the CD, line and recorder inputs take 135 mV at 19 kohm. Signal to noise ratio reaches 89 dB for MM, 74 dB for MC and 107 dB for the CD input. The case is 434 x 182 x 443 mm (width, height, depth), with a mass of 24.6 kg, and consumption is 400 W in use and 0.2 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Its output stage is an Advanced UHC-MOS single push-pull circuit driven by a differential one-stage amplifier, preceded by a variable gain preamplifier. On the digital side four ES9018K2M converter chips work under Ultra AL32 Processing, which interpolates PCM data up to 384 kHz/32-bit, and a master clock design plus asynchronous USB mode support the rear USB-B port. That port accepts PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and DSD up to 11.2 MHz, whereas the three optical sockets and single coaxial socket handle 192 kHz/24-bit. Analogue Mode switches off the digital circuitry altogether, and Source Direct bypasses the bass, treble and balance controls, which are managed by a microcontroller. There are four gold-plated RCA inputs including phono, all machined from brass, plus a recorder output. The phono equaliser uses a high-gain, simple and straight circuit and defaults to MM. A power amp input rated 0.9 V at 47 kohm allows use with an external preamplifier, and a headphone jack mutes the speakers when a plug is inserted. A mini-jack remote bus terminal and a remote handset complete the control options.
Pairing
Denon names its own DL-103R moving coil cartridge as a match for the MC phono stage. According to Denon, the push-pull output stage accommodates a range of speaker types and impedances.
