The Denon Home Amp is a compact two-channel streaming amplifier built around the HEOS multiroom platform, announced in July 2024 at USD 799 and now listed by Denon at USD 899. It joins class D amplification, a network player and a TV connection in a black box sized for a shelf or a media cabinet, and it is meant to drive a pair of passive loudspeakers in a living room or a secondary zone.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 100 W per channel into 8 ohm across 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and 125 W per channel into 4 ohm at 1 kHz, both at 0.05 percent distortion, with speaker loads of 4 to 16 ohm accepted. The owner's manual gives a frequency response of 20 Hz to 40 kHz within 3 dB and 105 dB signal-to-noise through the optical and HDMI inputs and 91 dB through the line input. The analogue input has 200 mV sensitivity at 20 kohm and takes up to 2.5 V. Inputs are HDMI with eARC, optical, one RCA line pair, USB-A for storage and Ethernet, and outputs are four-way binding posts plus a mono RCA subwoofer socket. The unit stands 86.2 mm high, 217 mm wide and 234 mm deep, weighs 2.1 kg and draws 70 W in use and 0.3 W in deep standby.
Engineering and use context
Streaming covers AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready operation and Bluetooth 4.2 with the A2DP and AVRCP profiles, plus services such as TIDAL, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora, SiriusXM and TuneIn inside the HEOS app. Files and streams up to 192 kHz and 24 bit are decoded in ALAC, FLAC and WAV, together with DSD at 2.8 and 5.6 MHz, MP3, AAC and WMA, while the HDMI link carries LPCM and Dolby Digital Plus from a television. Wi-Fi is dual band on 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with WPA3 security. For a 2.1 layout the amplifier has adjustable filters - a high-pass for the main speakers between 40 and 250 Hz and a low-pass for the subwoofer between 40 and 120 Hz. Bass and treble move by up to 5 dB each way, balance by up to 15 dB, and the sound modes are Stereo, Direct, Virtual, Night and a dialogue mode for speech. An IR input with a learning function lets a TV remote control volume.
Pairing
Its stable low-impedance rating and power reserve cover most bookshelf and compact floorstanding speakers, and the eARC socket makes the Home Amp a TV sound system without a separate receiver. Through HEOS it groups with Denon Home wireless speakers, Denon AV receivers and other HEOS products for playback in several rooms.
Alternatives
The Denon PMA-900HNE is the larger HEOS integrated amplifier in the hi-fi range, rated at 50 W into 8 ohm and 85 W into 4 ohm with a phono input and three optical inputs.
