The FLS 10 is a fully balanced dual mono integrated amplifier from Audia Flight of Italy, part of the company's FLS range. It is sold as a line-only unit or with factory-installed DAC and phono boards, which slot into two removable bays at the rear. The line-only version costs USD 12,999, and a unit with both boards at USD 16,997.
Key specs that matter
Output is 200 W per channel into 8 ohm, 380 W into 4 ohm and 700 W into 2 ohm, and the amplifier is stable down to 2 ohm loads. Frequency response is 0.3 Hz to 500 kHz at minus 3 dB. THD plus noise is below 0.05%, signal to noise ratio is 110 dB and the damping factor into 8 ohm exceeds 650. Input impedance is 47 kohm, and the volume range spans minus 90 dB to plus 10 dB. Sources plug into a pair of XLR inputs or one of three RCA inputs, and the rear also holds RCA and XLR preamp outputs, an RCA record output and two pairs of speaker binding posts. The chassis measures 450 x 180 x 440 mm and weighs 36 kg.
Engineering and use context
The power stage works in Class AB with discrete components. A 2000 VA toroidal transformer supplies twelve independent power supplies with a total capacitance of 288,000 uF. Audia Flight lists mains draw as 1 W at idle, 170 W at nominal output and 840 W at full power. The optional DAC board handles PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz and DSD512 through USB-B, optical, AES/EBU and S/PDIF inputs. The optional MM and MC phono board has selectable impedance and loading, so both cartridge types can be matched from the rear panel. Input names can be edited, unused inputs deactivated and gain trimmed by 6 dB either way for each source. An independent headphone amplifier is built in. An OLED display and an aluminium remote control are supplied, and the unit is finished in black or silver and covered by a two-year warranty. The DAC board costs USD 2,499 and the phono board USD 1,499, and either can be installed by Audia Flight before delivery.
Pairing
The two pairs of binding posts make bi-wiring possible without extra hardware, and the low-impedance ratings mean demanding speakers are within the stated operating range. Balanced sources connect to the two XLR inputs, for example the FLS 20 SACD player from the same series. The preamp outputs can feed a further power amplifier or a powered subwoofer.
Alternatives
The Audia Flight FLS9 is a smaller Audia Flight integrated amplifier with a lower power rating and a lighter chassis.
